One of my twins, Sydney, caught her front edge while snowboarding, broke her fall with an outstretched hand and broke both her radius and ulna on Dec 29th!

This was her second year snowboarding. She almost had her heelside and toeside turns linked that day. Not bad for a 7 year old!

Pour a little out for my homie-ette!

How long will she be sidelined? Hope she's feeling ok now.

Should be back on the board by mid February (6 weeks after accident). Except for one Motrin at the hospital, she hasn't had to take anything for pain.

She is doing great and isn't letting it get her down, even though I was boarding last Saturday with her sister.

She's still smiling though , kids are sooo cool.

And they get to pick cool colors for their cast now, Emilie broke her wrist snowboarding last year and got the Pink so she could stay fashionable.

Steve,
Did the same thing last weekend up @ Devils Head... Yep, Gabs did a header and snapped her clavical in half near the shoulder... You'd think these darn kids would bounce a little more before breaking???

Anyway like Sydney, she's very into the attention. Eventhough she doesn't have a cast of any kind, only a sling, she's working the crowd pretty good...

Damn snowboarders making all those mogules pisses one off ya know???

I stubbed my toe on some coral rock and my head got sunburned in Key West last week. Hurt like the d*ckens. Whaaaaattt......? No sympathy?

Just kidding as I didn't do either.

But I will pour out a little sympathy for the homie-ette. Not that she needs it however as she does appear to be soakin up the attention. You guys will cherish that great shot for a lifetime!

BKH, It is a damn good thing she resembles her Mom. However if she behaves like her Mom (especially for the reasons I married her), I'm royally screwed in about 5 years!

Right on about that one, Moj', Syd couldn't wait to get back to school and collect her due.

I broke my clavical in 3 places skiing in high school. Took a jump, did a back-scratcher and caught my tips. Landed right on my shoulder and head.

I'll tell ya, some times those kids can say stuff that will really make you think twice. On the ride home, she started crying again. I though she was in pain, but when I asked what was wrong, she said "You taught me all the right things to do and I didn't do them good. I'm sorry I didn't do good." Ironically, I couldn't have been more proud of her. She was really brave through the whole thing and both the kids were doing great on the board. She just caught her front edge. Still happens to me after 15 years of boarding.

Is Carrie giving you any strife about it? De gives me a little here and there, but has been surprisingly good about the whole thing.

Snowboarders....Moguls.... If you skiers would get your skills on, it wouldn't be and issue!

Steve,

Wow, glad Sydney is OK.

Maddie was wrestling with her brother when she was about 8mos old, let out a little yelp and cried for a bit, of course couldn't get a straight answer out of her 10yr old bro as to what happened and Maddie couldn't say "hey my leg hurts", later that day she cried some more and I just knew something was up, took her to the hospital and it turned out she had a broken leg, HOLY SH*%!!

She basically learned to walk in a cast, still have her cast as a little keepsake along with the photo's like above.

Stevo, we all broke stuff growing up. But hell, maybe that's because we didn't have video games??? Our girls, like yours, are growing up and being taught things that we obviously enjoyed and still enjoy, IE: boating, skiing, winter sports, hangliding, mountain climing etc. (oh kerist, hopefully not motorcycle riding) haha

Yeah, I have caught a lot of crap for taking my 7 year old down a ski run a little more advanced of her skills, but oh well, ya can't learn if you don't try.. She also just caught an edge and it threw her straight down onto her shoulder. She was wearing a helmut, as all kids, should and so she'll be fine.. She wants to go up still this year, so thank god, it didn't scare her away from the sport, well so far..

Now my 9 year old is picking out snowboards as she's now spent a few hours on one and wants to dump the skis.. Damn young'ns... Whatever happen to good old fashion skiing??

Oh, and although my skills are old and rusty on them two sticks, I hold my own to you non conformists hahaha...

Happy boarding my friend !!!

Raindog
Last year, both my boys (13 and 17) had matching broken left arms from boarding. My youngest broke the ball off the top of the humerous, his brother broke his wrist.
Kids are tough though. 4 years ago, my oldest fractured his wrist on his board while we were up north. He wasn't in any pain so we set him up in the lodge, gave him money for chow and he and his brother watched Warren Miller movies so that we could enjoy the 8" of fresh powder that had fallen that morning. During the evening break, we bought him a splint (my wife's a nurse), set him up in the condo, and we headed out for night riding. Sounds cruel, but his favorite orhtopod was back near home.

Mojo
You mentioned Devils Head. That resort is owned by the same family that owns the hill we ride here in Michigan called Alpine Valley. It's about 3 miles from my house.

Snowboarders mess up the wrists, Skiers their knees. Might get some wrist guards for the boarders. We are getting dumped on here in the PacNW this winter. Awesome freshies to be had every day. Started both my boys skiing at 3 and then they switched to boarding at 7. Now at 12 and 10 one boards and one ski's. My problem now is it's getting too expensive. With the girlfriend, her son and my boys it's three bills for lift tickets and gas in the tow rig. Heaven forbid we choose to eat in the lodge. Makes a day on the lake seem pretty affordable. It's all worth it though. No Nintendo in our house.

A torn ACL while two plankin 7 years ago was what lead me to snowboarding. I figured both knees working together might be better. Haven't looked back since.

Raindog, I'm glad your daughter's smiling. That means she wants to go back out and keep doing it.

My kids are all skiers. They aren't interested in snow boarding or wake boarding. That makes it easier for me because we are all on the same page. We all ski together.

It's sunny and 50 degrees today. Great spring skiing. I should be at the mountain instead of sitting at this computer.

Here's looking at busted wrists and colar bones then eh Tull hahahaha.... I'm just to darn old to start, but my oldest daughter I don't think will go back now either....

Soon they'll out do me on the hills and I'll half to resort to sitting in the bar drinking "skilifts" with beer backs !!! Hell, maybe I'll do that next time out haha..

How old are you? I checked your profile and no b-date is given.
Someone in another thread quoted Warren Miller and it went something like this- "If you don't try it this year, you'll be one year older when you do"
Steve
P.S. If anyone comes to SE MI and brings their equipment, I'll buy lift tickets at Alpine Valley.

If you don't fall, you ain't tryin' hard enough.

If you don't hurt something from time to time, you are resting on your laurels and are not expanding your skills.

Moj', brotha, you ain't dead yet, so stop acting like you are! Come out, try it for 1 day. I'll work with you and Danielle, we will take it really easy and show you the basics. You could even use my old board and she could use Syd's (you'll probably need to rent boots, though).

It took me 12 times tryin' before I broke my kid. You should be safe for a while.

If I bust you up, I'll guarantee a ride to the hospital or home and will bring some Patron and a Montecristo for a pain killer!
