+1 Exercising the tach switch will often yield good results.

Check wiring for loose connections.

Look for a loose connection or bad ground.

I just bought a 96 CC ski nautique. Ive had it out a few times now and noticed that the tach seems to not work correctly. Ive had the boat at 32mph and seen the tach read 3200, 4000, and 5000 rpms all at that same speed on calm water. Also when I go from speed down to idle...the tach seems to "Bounce" from 1 to 3 thousand rpms up and down for a few seconds. Any advice on what may be wrong with the tach and how to fix it?
Thanks....Paul
