Mark, as long as you go with high quality trailer tires with an appropriate load rating, he'll be fine. Also be sure to run the recommended pressure- stay on the high side to be safe.

I guess I'll tell him to order the wider 5.30 x 12" tires.

My father just bought a small 16' Boston Whaler. He has to tow it from CT to FL. It currently has 4.80 x 12" on a 5 x 4.5 bolt circle tires on it. He wants to try and put 13" tires/rims on there since he worried about towing all the way to FL.
I told him the 1" would probably not make any difference. I said he should probably go to the 5.30 x 12" instead of the 13". The 13" should fit under the fender but there's more chance of rubbing. Any thoughts? |
