Ok, I will use the factory spacer with the pvc hose.

There were no grommets with the new valve covers, jsut gaskets. I will ned to purchase a set of valve cover grommets. I see Summit has a set of ford racing ones for like 5 -6 bucks. Hopefully that does the trick, I will have to measure the grommet hole size on the trick flow vovers as they are bigger than the ford ones.

I see some people use 87-95 5.0 mustang style ford efi valve covers on their pcm's. These already have the tube for the breather to the arrestor on the pass. side and the pvc fitting should already be on the other end. If not that is an easy fix.

I do have an entire motor from my old 87 5.0 mustang, so I could pirate the valve covers from that for my boat. I even still have the oil cap. I would need new VC gaskets though, which sucks since I have 2 sets of new ones for steel VC's. One set came with my entire gasket set, and one came with my Trick flow VC's.

Oh well, if that will do it, that would be an easy fix. I may be able to cut the tabs off of the steel VC gaskets and use a little 3m weatherstrip adhesive to hold them in place.

If the carb spacer is only a hair too tall, I willprobably have my machine shop buddy mill the spacer down a tad. We shall see, as it seems some people have motorbox interference issues with a performer intake, and some don't. I do have a 1978 martinique, so I don't know if this combo has even been attempted.

To block any holes in the intake that will need to be, I should use brass plgs with pipe tape, correct?

the gromment should have had a heavy walled one and a thin one, thin one breather, thick one PVC.

You cannot run the PVC to the breather it has to be under vaccum, you really need to use the spacer, leaving power on the table and you should still have clearance, if not just cut part of the arresto off, grind the rivets if needed to remove the bottom piece where it meets the carb, then cut some of the body off of the arrestor and reassembly with machine screws with lock nuts, but use the spacer it's much easier to plumb the PVC.

Also if you just loosen the exhaust manifold, don't touch the riser section, but pull both end bolts and replace with a couple of longer ones then remove remove the other bolts you can pull it out of the way with out completely removing them, just watch the gasket and if it get torn up you can still slide a new one in between if need. If the gasket isn't already sloted just notch the gasket on the two outer most holes so that it will slide over the body of the bolt.

Hi all,

So I got my GT40p heads on my 78 martinique witha 351W PCM last weekend. I am now in the process of getting the performer intake on it, and then mounting my new trick flow valve covers on.

I have a few questions about this, and I would love to know the answers before I go up north to finish the job on Thursday night, for the 4th weekend.

My first question has to do with the PCV breather hose and where that goes to on my new setup. I will be running one of those 1/16" edelbrock to Holley carb converters, and not the spacer as was stock with the nipple for the PCV hose. Can I simply run the pcv hose to the runner on the manifold toward the back? if so, what adapter have people used to thread into that? Or is there any other way to run this? Could I buy a breather with a PVC valve for the passenger side valve cover and have that breatehr do double duty as a vent to the flame arrestor and pcv valve?

I am aware I may need a new shorter flame arrestor, which is why I dont want to run a spacer if possible.

valve covers I was given for my B day have push in grommets that dont quite match the PCM/ ford valve covers in that the holes are bigger for the PVC valve, and It appears I will need a push in style breatehr forthe passenger side to connect to the flame arrestor. The original breather twist/ locked in.

I figure this type of push in breather will suffice for the passenger side

I figure just a set of different grommets will allow me to use the pcv on the drivers side, and allow a push in style breater to work on the passenger side.

1 more thing, these valve covers are not baffled like the stock ones near the breather holes. Will that be an issue??

I of course could re use the old breather/ fill cap, and old valve covers, but they are not shiney, and nasty blue. If the intake riser did not have to come off to get att he lower center valve cover bolts, I would simply run the old breatehr/ valve covers on my otherwise much nicer looking engine. Well until I figured these breather /baffle issues out.

So, what do you guys have to say about my ramblings?
