never ever...but ive seen it done many, many times especially in transmission case bearing bores too

Danny, You've missed that the component that gets the heat/freeze method of install is the shaft coupling and not the cutlass (strut bushing). Go with Erics Locktite recommendation. I believe the 518 is the "bearing retainer"

Eric, Why would I have a problem with your recommendation? Loctite OK but the center punch is a back yard crude method - you're not doing it!!!

Should I add set screws on the leading end to help secure it or will the sealant hold?

Dan, put them on the ends and I use an anorobic sealant when loose, loctite 518??? it cures when the oxygen is removed so dont worry if the squeeze out doesnt dry
Petes going to kill me....Ive seen guys center punch the OD of the bushings to expand them and then you loctite....depending on the looseness

I removed the strut to replace the bushings. When I removed the old bushing I thought I'd check to see how snug the fit was before doing the suggested heat/freeze method. What I found was the new bushings slid in with little effort. So I have to questions...
1st- the new bushings don't go end to end in the stut.. so what is the suggested placement of the new shorter bushings in refernce to the ends/vs set screws?
2nd- What if anything can I do to snug up the bushings and or make them a little tighter inside the strut.

I know there was a post some time ago regarding this, but I couldn't find it.
