Thanks for all the information. I have determined with your help that the helm is a Teleflex Big-T and takes the standard Teleflex replacement cable. It doesn't look like it will be as big a job, or as expensive, as I originally thought. I hope to have it back in the water by the weekend...the start of my vacation. Thanks again.

Actually, its not. Pre-82 Correct Crafts used generic Teleflex cables. I just replaced the one in my Ski Tique- the 16' boats take a 16' cable, though a 17' cable will work as well.

I assume a Barracuda would take a 17' cable.

Go2Marine has them for $98.

They also carry the Clevis Kit.

You will need the clevis kit for the new cable because it's made different than the original. Also on mine, the support tube that has the clamp bracket mounted to the stringer just in front of the rudder, you'll need a new one of those too. The old style tube has threads on the inside and the newer cable will need a support tube with threads on the outside where it attaches to the cable. I would also take the helm apart and clean out the old grease, there's probably a lot of broken cable pieces in there.

support tube

clevis kit

Steering cable on my 1969 Barracuda just broke today. The inner cable seperated at the steering box. Can the inner cable only be replaced? Or should the entire sleeve and inner cable be replaced? How does it disconnect from the "piston" at the rudder end if just the inner cable can be replaced? Where can either be purchased?
I love this old boat. It runs like a dream and I get many compliments on the restoration. It remains an awesome wakeboarding boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
