Jamie,
Always make sure your battery is in good shape and has a full charge when you put it in the boat. A weak battery will cause the starter to draw more current (Ohms law) and it's hard on the relay contacts - it's a reason they will weld themselves together. |

Jamie,
Here's Tims electrical drawing. Disconnect the main power to the starter (so it doesn't turn the engine over) and then with a meter or a test light see if you can find what isn't turning off. Start at the relay (solenoid) and see if you have power at the "S" terminal with the key off. If no power check for power through the rely (the big cables) the contacts may be welded together. If you do have power at the "S" terminal, go back to the ignition switch. |

After my 1992 351 Pro Boss has sat for awhile, I reconnected the battery only to discover that the starter instantly turned over, even without the ignition breaker or keyswitch turned on. As soon as there was power from battery, the starter turns over. Could this be the ignition relay or more serious electrical problem? The motor was running normally and strong just 2 mos ago when last in water. Please help??
