It's a very easy game. Think of it as 2 phases (assuming you're playing with the dice, not against them):
Phase 1: The come out roll phase. Pass line bet. We are stuck in this phase, rolling until one of three events occur- a) 2,3, or 12 show up: Craps, lose pass line bet, restart Phase 1. b)7, 11 show up: Win pass line bet, restart Phase 1. c)Any other number shows up (4,6,8,5,9,10). That number becomes the point, and we enter Phase 2. In Phase 2, the rules are easier. We roll the dice until one of two scenarios occur: a) The point number we established in Phase 1 shows up- pass line winner, restart at Phase 1 b) The 7 comes up. Everybody loses the pass line bet and all other bets "with" the dice (except the Come bet which we'll learn in my next lesson). The table is cleared, and we restart at Phase 1. Couldn't be easier. All of the other bets are just betting on every aspect of the action. Every bet besides a Come Bet or Pass Line bet with odds are sucker bets for the most part. Usually the old guy at the table throwing money everywhere is playing sucker bets all over the place. Hop bets, C & E's, world bets, high-lows, high horn 7, hardways (which I actually like), yo's, etc are all sucker bets but sometimes people place them just because they sound so cool! "Gimmie a 2 dollar high low, parlay the hard 8, give me the rest of the hard ways for a dollar and give me the six-three on the hop!" |

Thanks man, I have been trying to learn craps for several years. That app was pretty cool and help explain a lot I had been missing.
I'm up $700.00. I guess the game is more about when to and when not to bet. Up to this point my craps strategy was to watch and follow the 'old guy' with all the chips at the rail. Heck, last time I played we got lost in the action and had a better time yelling out "Dolla Yo" while flipping chips at the dealer to see if he could keep up - he did, then the Pit Boss told us to stop. He was nice about it. After all he did not give us the choice of the hammer or the money. |
