Yes, I'm reviving an old thread. This is just cool stuff.

So, Jaws III was on AMC this past weekend, and I noticed that in all of the ski show scenes they were driving the Glastron Carlson. That movie came out in 1983. I can't find any information but it's probably a safe assumption that the movie was shot in 1982.

Was 1983 the first model year that the SN was used at Sea World? I'm talking specifically about Orlando. My family made a trip to SeaWorld in 1984, if I recall correctly. When we walked out to the ski show stadium, there was a 2001 perched up on a big display. I would have been about 13 at the time, but I'll never forget that boat display and the show.

My favorite part of the show was the guy dressed in construction overalls who comes out and starts hammering on a roof during the show. The announcer asks him to grab that rope and he does a barefoot start after jumping from the roof of that building.

Anyone know what year it was when they ditched the Glastron for the Ski Nautique?

Thanks for the compliments on the 88! I'm replacing the floor in her this spring so i'm getting anxious to get on the water! I'll bet you hated to see the 68 go...but you 83 looks immaculate! Great thread you've got going here...if you ever wander down to Iowa let me know..I'm always up for a road trip!

Good discussion. I too think I owned a Sea World show boat. Over the years I have onwed three Nautiques a 1986, a 1990, and currently a 2002 196, but it was my first one the 1986 which (I bought in 1988) we beleive was a Sea World tow boat. It has a rare black hull with ivory deck, a PCM 454, no back seat, dual steering cable, and a second bilege pump under the tank. It origiannly came with a three blade 14" x 11 pitch prop that would pull your house off of it's foundation (later we switched to a 14x14 prop). The other unique feature it had was the rear decal read "Powered BY PCM". It also has the number "4" on the inside of the gun whale in the rear corner behind the drivers seat. Does anyone else have the matching unit to this one?

Hello Storm34! I like the looks of your 1988 Ski Nautique and enjoyed hearing the Mustang fire up! I guess that soon many of us will be doing that same thing with our engines! I was actually able to pick the boat up in Dubuque! The name of the marina in Dubuque was called Mid-Town. My home at the time was in Rockford, Illinois and that was as close to my house as they could get the boat! These guys at Mid-Town where just a delivery location. Mid-Town was not a Correct Craft dealer. After using the boat for the new tow boat for the Ski Broncs in 1968 I was tranfered to Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 1968 was sold to a guy that was going to use it in Northern Minnesota at a church camp in 1983. Have not heard from him since!

Pauley, Where in Iowa did they drop off your boat? I am guessing Hartwick Lake Marine in Delhi, Iowa. Thats the only CC dealer I know of in Iowa and I am guessing it was still around back then due to the large amounts of old CC's still on that lake today!

The Metal Flake boats are a real eye catchers! As Woody has helped to explain (these can really crack over time). Is it possible to get the cloudy haze in the clear to shine again without spending some huge dollars or a lot of time?

This was the boat I bought back in 1985 when I worked at Correct Craft. It was special ordered with a blue metal flake stripe, only $150 more at the time, and a fiberglass platform. I would like to find it again someday.

All the metalflake boats started with clear gel coat first in the mold than the flake was sprayed on top than a layer of chopped. Then thay started to lay on the rest of the fiberglass the proper thicknest. The problem that came up after the boat was in the field for a while was the clear would start to crack. and water would get under and cause the clear to peel off. very hard to repair when this started. I remember those boats very well. Love the old picture of W.N.Meloon. We tryed to repair a Silver Nautique a long time ago. It became a nitemare trying to make it look good again. I found the picture of the GTO pulling tandum 1968 Ski Nautiques back in the Spring of 1968! I added the pictures to the Tow Rig Combinations! I have also included the purchase agreement and some other cool pictures from the day I bought my first Correct Craft!



This is how most of us see these fine boats during transportation!

Enjoying my boat back in the late 1970's at the Wisconsin Dells! SkierBrants dad's boat (Orrin's) is the orange front bow also in the picture! Notice that I had the sides painted (loved the large Ski Nautique) in white with a black outline! I wish I knew what happened to the 1968! I had to sell the boat to get my 1983!

Thanks! Don't worry, TRBenj and pbrainard are members over there too. Erik's and my personality seem to clash pretty hard, though I've never been anything but helpful on his site. I even helped him behind the scenes for a short time over there, and then he banned me after something I posted on a completely different site. It looks like I've been IP blocked now. Even though I know we wouldn't be friends in "real life", I still enjoyed helping him on that site for the good of the 2001!

Pauly Great memrobellia. You mentioned one of those yellow vests A couple of years ago Art Cozier from old So East CC cleaned out one of his closets at home and gave me a bunch of old Masters jackets and other Correct Craft Fashion from over the years and low and behold I now have one of those yellow vests.

In the picture of the Sea world skiers can any one identify anybody? I can as I ski with a few of them today.
One of the skiers is Joe Aloe Remember him ? he was a regular on the Coors light Freestyle jump competion.
Good luck with your boat. one of the best things you can do is do away with the dual tension cables and install A 21st century Rack and pinion single cable system. Just use the upper hole on your clamp block mount. You will love the way it drives.
I am currently resurecting a 92 Sea World boat all the dual cable system went in the trash. amazing it stayed in the boat that long.

This is from the Fall Tribune in 1983 Volume 22, Number 4!

The top winning bid went to a guy from Maryland named Peter Garrigus, the second place went to Dallas as mentioned earlier and the third place winner was Neal Lassila who was on Lake Conway only one mile at that time form the factory.

Here is some more information on the black, gray and gold boat that TRbenj got out of the diaries! This one was origionally purchsed by a Correct Craft dealer Louie Raven, Boat Town of Texas and was the second place winner! They let it sit out side thier dealership in the hot, hot sun. They sold it to a guy in Texas that at some point lost the rear seat! He sold the boat to go to school to a police officer in Kansas. The guy in Kansas added a bimini top and hardly used the boat. The pictures that he sent me showed the boat as having a really cloudy clear coat! Also, large cracks all over the deck at points that a hole or screw was added in the metal flake clear coat. The boat had not been well taken care of by at least one of these owners. The guy who bought the boat for around $7,000 reconitioned the trailer and listed it immediately on CCF to make a decent profit. Too bad for the boat, but really a cool idea by Correct Craft in producing some wild colors with metal flake combinations.

Sorry it took me so long to join CCF! My excuse could be that I was busy skiing and or driving my boat, but in Minnesota that really does'nt fly! I suppose that better late than never is good. It does seem strange to be a newbie after all these years of being around the product. I even worked for the first exclusive Correct Craft dealer here in Minnesota before the owner (Cal Brown) or CJ's marine had passed away a few years ago. He would have really enjoyed your site. Being around show skiing, three event, sales and service for over 40 years has really educated me on the product. Thanks for supplying the site and having me as a member!!!

Believe it or not, I have a 2001 yellow mint condition Correct Craft Jacket with the rainbow 2001 patch on the left chest! Currently Scott (skierox) and I have lots of publications that take you through many years of Correct Crafts. We plan to bring these to Green Lake. Back in 1968 when I purchased my first Ski Nautique there where not many ski boats available! It was very difficult to even get a boat supplied to a dealer back then. Owning a competition ski boat was a huge prize with many skiers not being able to find one. I will follow up with a picture showing my 1968 and another same color 1968 Ski Nautique being pulled by a GTO from Florida to Iowa! Both boats were identical. It looks to me that back in 1983 with the agreement to supply 2001's to Sea World and the 25th Masters that same year that some really cool variations in color, gel-coat and interior designs were being produced! Keep in mind that this new picture that I have added was for three custom Ski Nautique 2001's that went to the highest bidder. The minimum bid had to be at least $14,000 that included boat, swim platform and deluxe interior and trailer. Pictures are off from two pages! Sorry! I will post the GTO pulling tandum 1986 Nautiques when I find the photo!

Ah for the special story about my boat is the following.. the 1º owner was looking for a skiboat, so he went to the local dealer.. actually he acts as an intermediary of cc.. you do the import and he just helps and then collects a fee from cc so no boats on stock here....so it was almost december, he got the boat and asked how long would it take to have it shipped to Argetina.. they told him about 1 1 1/2 months... so by that time summer was at its ends... so he inquired which would be the fastest way to have it shipped. answer was by air... so it did and 10 day later boat arrived in a cargo plane...paying same price for freight as the cost of the boat itself...
So my boat is kind of special because is the only one here (in argentina) that actually got airborne...

Pauly, I am absolutely loving these old pictures- thanks for sharing! It is especially cool to see that some of these special edition CC's actually existed. It seems like half the older boats for sale have some bogus story about being a "Special Edition Promo/Seaworld/Callaway boat".

I love the vests that the drivers are wearing in the gray boats too!
