anyone know how big the exhaust port is at the rear of the transom? is it 4 or 5 inch? I have a buddy that does exhaust work, im thinking of taking and running dual pipes off the risers all the way back and then going into a larger "y" single out. it would have to sound better but dont know if it would hurt performance.

Modifying the steering system is a major safety concern, which I can understand not wanting to publish on the web. I doubt Tim would want his boat compared to the blacked out Squam inboards 2001 sacked out to the fuel tank vent. The boat has been to 3 reunions post exhaust, maybe he'll let you stick your head down there for a peak next time.

86BFN,
I've looked at that link several times but there's no picture of the rudder arm and steering box mod. Unless I'm brain dead and missed it which could be true. |

Maybe he's looking at a muffler, and it's just like it is supposed to be? Perhaps someone put another one inline.
Buffalo, catch that edit? |

Sounds like the exhaust hose is delaminating. Has the engine ever been run hot? Overheated without water? Probably time for new hose. The hose should be smooth inside. |

no its not that part, its the rubber pipe that goes out of the rear of the boat that has the flap attached

Well i got down with a flashlight yesterday afternoon, and began looking. When i looked up in the exhaust tubefrom the rear of the boat, it looks like there is like maybe a baffle layer inside the tube. It looks like there are maybe hundreds of 1/2 to 1 inch bubles all in the pipe. Is this some type of sound dampner?

Hey Tim,
I want to put duel's on my '95. If you could take a pic of the rudder arm mod for me I would appreciate it immensely. Thanks |

I thought i'd seen before that the Sport was introduced in '89, but i went & checked in the reference & couldn't find one. I just initially saw the sloped transom & the numbers '89' & thought differently.
Nice boat! Nate |

Nate, thats a Sport Nautique. It didnt officially make the brochure until '90, but there are a handful of '89's around.

You sure that's an '89?
I was pretty sure the sloped transom didn't come around until '90 I'm probably wrong though & someone will surely be quick to correct me. Nate |

TRBenj, Yes it came from the factory this way. I would think there is a slight performance advantage to the crossover, as to how much, your guess is as good as mine. The mufflers are fiberglass and have gotten a bit louder over the years. it really does have a nice sound to it. Last spring when my wife went for her first ski of the year she asked if I have modified the exaust. LOL

Thanks for the comments on the exhaust, guys. Definitely not a project for the faint of heart, but it gets the job done in the looks department. Doesnt sound bad either- though it is a bit loud for a ski boat.
86BFN, tell me about that crossover pipe (H-pipe). Was that installed on your Dyne from the factory? If you did it yourself, Im curious if it made a performance improvement. I am planning to add one to my '90 this year, as well as a set of small mufflers so my ears dont ring after I ski. |

Eric here's a few shots of the crossover on the Dyne you asked about. BTW have you ever encountered a nylon shaft seal such as this. I'm thinking of installing an OJ dripless while I'm replaceing the strut bushing. |

You can buy K9's invertaflow. He may not need it much longer!

My case is exactly the opposite, I'm building this 22 feet cabin boat with a 351 Commander and I want it to be as quiet as it can, any ideas?

Would be very interested in this Y configuration, cause I don't want to drill holes in the transom for the dual pipes (even tho they look very cool on Tims'boat). |
