UPDATE: I went to my main mechanic in Gulfport, FL (King Marine) and Gary King, one heck of a guy and an awsome mechanic, made up a Mercruiser pump out of a couple of parts he had laying around the shop, and it fit just the way the old OMC did. Put on a little shorter belt, hooked up the hose to her, and fired it up. Sucked water like mad. We tested it out in Tampa Bay on April 9th and she kept the temp around 130, top speed 42 MPH,(TACH SAID 4200 and since it 1:1...) I will test it with my hand held GPS later. Boat ran great. Water was a little choppier thhan I like but it was time to go. This rebuild project has taken three years, alot of it was just waiting for mechanics to pencil me in, and for things like waiting for the right weather to paint the boat. I can officially call her done and I am so glad. Now someone point me towards the Kingfish,     SemperFIsh is ready!!!!!
Please watch all four rebuild videos in order (or just skip to #4 if you already watched the others) at http://www.youtube.com/user/gigg566

Also if you want pictures of a similar instalitation I am currently repowering a 22' Shamrock center console with a new 5.7 PCM chevy carb motor. This is in my Opinion the way to go.

Not sure what your budget is but the current surpentine PCM system is pretty trick and if and "when" one has to change out the impeller it is a snap! Just be sure that all the same fastening bosses are the same from your 78 to the current small block. I may go over to this system on my Fish.

If its the same pump that Larry has in his '76 OMC 305, Im pretty sure that Depco doesnt have the parts. He went with the crank mount.

Don,
Duane has a OMC which used a completly different pump. The only pump that Skidim would have is the crank driven he found but that does require lots of mods - Brackets etc.

Duane,
Get in touch with Depco pump and see if they have the parts you need or send your pump to them for rebuilding.

Do you know what type I would order for this engine? They are not making my pump anymore. I would have to go with a newer style but don't know which one. I believe another Nautique owner had my pump and switched to this, but he had a '76 omc 305. Wondering if this would work on mine.
