I almost baught a 72 martnique with a 318 and the starter was on the other side. I forget what maranization the engine was. It was a beautiful boat but it had no ski pylon so I needed something a little more ski oriented.

The Starter in on my Torino's 318, is on the same side of the bellhousing as the motor. Never seen one on the opposite side..

Dont think so. Notice the dual plane intake on the blue motor. Thats a sign of a newer motor. The single plane was only used from 67-71(2bbl I never saw a car with a factory 4bbl single plane). Also that motor in the first picture has a 4bbl on it. It also has the older style slip on oil cap. Chrysler also used red for their lo po motors in the late 60's and changed to blue around 68 or maybe 70ish. Im not an expert on the lo po motor colors and years because they generally dont matter in the muscle car world.

I found the boat and year.... so the engine has to be a 79 or later?

No way its a 1979 Chrysler Striper.... See picture below. Striper is the name of chrysler's Outboard...

Hmmm... Unless it is not the original, bc I just got off the phone with the guy. He said it is in a 1979 Chrysler striper. I am trying to find more information, but its not going very well...

All of the marine chryslers I recall had the starter on the other side of the bellhousing. Its definatly a 67-69 maybe 70 318 judging by the factory single plane manifold. The build date and engine size should be cast into the block on the starter side under the head.

Reid P would probably know more about what maranization and the badging on the valve cover means.

if its a 292 HP motor its either an early high compression(pre 72) or a hot marine 340.(later 360's would have had a dual plane intalke). The only displacements chrysler made in the LA block motors were 273, 318, 340, 360.

That 292 looks like it just might be some number sticker they put on the manifolds from the factory. Alot of the low po mopars had different types of stickers on the valve covers.

I was told this motor was a 318 Chrysler, but I can't find anything on the internet that says anything about a "292" Like it says on the valve cover?

Also, by looking at the starter, is this a reverse rotation motor?

Don't you just love the automotive non marine regulated air cleaner?
