The u/j tube is also 1/4" (on our 88, so i'll assume 89 also)

That's why I suggested looking at Mcmaster for the tap too. Nice thing about them is you buy industrial priced stuff. I go back with them into the early 70's at work. It's rare that they won't have something. I did stump them the other day looking for a left hand 1/4" pipe plug. The high pressure side of some pressure regulators (for the CO2) are left hand thread and I was thinking of removing the gauge. $23.00 3/4" pipe tap at Mcmaster |

Thanks Pete, going to order a tap ($10) off of ebay tonight.
They are expensive ($40) to buy retail! My boat is still in storage (going to fetch it this weekend) so i can't measure it until then. I'll look at petcocks, good idea! |

Chris,
If you have the riser type PCM's then yes, it's a 3/4" pipe. You may want to consider putting stop cocks back in after you chase the holes. I have these on all my boats. 
They are a "high end" radiator drain but unlike the typical cheap ones, the whole center valve stem is removable so you can still probe the hole with some wire to make sure there isn't any sediment plugging it. Merc uses them on their engines. The largest pipe size is 3/8" so you'll need a 3/8 by 3/4 brass bush. stop cock at Mcmaster Mcmaster would be a good source for the tap and bush too. If you go with the drains, might as well do the other ones too. The block should be 1/4" pipe and the water pump "U" tube should be 1/8". |

Does anyone know what size pipe thread the drain port is on the exhaust manifold? My guess is 3/4-14 NPT.
I want to buy a tap as the threads on mine are pretty corroded. Thanks Chris |
