Tim, I believe the pre-'71 16 footers used a straight-vertical pylon, while the '71-up used the aft-sloping pole. Doesn't yours slope? The '71 saw the advent of the front bench in the Mustang which required more clearance than the bucket seats of before. |

That makes sense, Gary- the fiberglass buckets were a late '68 or '69 change as well! |

Tim you sure know your boats. After talking with Reid at GL,he said mine is a 69 because of the scoop on the front deck. That said,my pylon is the same as yours. |

I bought a pylon from a buddy out of his 99 Ski Nautique. I am going to try to glass it in this winter.

I have been searching for a platform and came across this post. I love the look of my boat but it has been a pain getting in and out of the boat. I may take your advice and just locate a rear ladder for my 70 nautique

I'll officially second the idea on the platform!! Thanks Tim. Paul, You can take a look through our diaries at pylons about 67 to 70. There was a transition from the mid 60's to the early 70's - 3 different styles I believe. The 69 should be just a straight painted pylon. Not too hard to make if you have access to a lathe or have a friend with a machine shop. The ring and finger is harder to find as many have been cut off to install a extended pylon. It too can be fabricated but is more complicated. I did make a retro style for my Atom. I'm just giving you some options here because you will have a hard time finding one. Like Tim mentioned, keep your eyes open!! |

You might have a hard time finding a platform for that boat since Correct Craft didnt start installing them until 1978! I am working to get a template for a Ski Tique which is a similar sized boat, so perhaps that might work. I'll officially discourage you from installing one on that vintage boat, though! The naked transom looks much cleaner, IMHO.
That pylon is going to be a pretty tall order as well... they come available pretty rarely. Keep your eyes peeled! |
