now that is really funny, but then I guess you don't have any issues now calling the pot black since you self promote every chance you get thought business was good and you didn't need to self promote like you do almost daily or when the opportunity presents it's self. |

I must be mistaken Chris, I thought a supporter was someone that Paid to advertise on this site, and a link was altogether different.
But you are the self promoter here,as to how much you know and how "STUPID" the rest of us are. But what do I know>>>>>>>>>>>>> |

like I said use the links tab and it's right there where it's always been, guess they just don't like to self promote or have time during the day to chat online like some others prefer too. |

All good with the guys at skidim, excelent service/products, but I havent seen a banner of theirs here lately, neither any of them helping fellow members at the forums.
That's what I meant by "support us" |

maybe you should read all of the words, just trying to point in the right direction, wasn't aware that was your add to start with and Skidim has been a supporter much longer than you've been on the site that I recall.

ok guess you forgot who was on board long before these guys and I don't believe they have the conversion kit any way. But click on the links tab at the top and you'll find all of the great supporters of this site, some even offer discounts too. So don't forget to get the CCF discount from Skidim when you order. is that actually your shop Billy? thought it was a regional shop for PCM/CC |

imagine that, but it's not called a ignition computor is call the ignition module and there are four coil packs mounted to it this is the complete Pro-tech system.
For what your going to pay for a new module and coil packs you might as well buy the conversion kit from Skidim now and replace the junk ignition system (even new it sucks) that is currently on the engine. |

I wanted to update everyone on my findings. It looks like it is the Protec Ignition Box that contains the coil packs and the Ignition Computer. I should be able to replace that from PCM or SkiDim since my boat is an EFI. Thanks for everyone's help I appreciate it. Once the part is ordered and put back on the boat I will update once again. Thanks again!!

The past week or two before the boat decided not to run the temp gauge would fall to 0 when you started the boat. It would stay there till the boat gets to 150 or so. Then it would read correctly. Also, when you turned the boat off and started it again it would go to 0 and then come back to opp temp after a few min. Would this make the boat not start. I appreciate everyone's help. I will keep you updated.
Also, I was trying to start the boat last week and it backfired, i don't know how it backfired since there isn't any spark and blew off the safety cover on the muffler. I lost the cover, so I made a new one out fiberglass, I just wanted to make sure that it will not burn or anything. Also what is the best way to attach it. Just but some resin around the side and glue it in? |

I would look at the oil switch first and see if it can be by-passed, check the manual in the reference section it might have the info you need to do that. But chek the oil level and then make sure you have pressure, then move to the pos lead of the module connection and verifiy power to it before and during cranking.
this is assuming you've all ready check to see that there is no spark at the plug, because if you do have spark at the plug then it's a fuel or timing issue and if it's timing that the module on this style system I believe and not the ECU. |

Ok Timm since you have no clue what your talking about please keep quit.
First there is only one module and then there are four coil packs that sit ontop of that module. Secondly the substrait is where the brains to the unit are located and it is the aluminum piece you see on the back side of the module. It also contains the lead frame for the power feed and ground lead for all coil packs and since they are all on the same lead frame/curcuit if you lose power or a ground you kill all four coil packs. And the only thing in those coil packs are two concentric coils, the primary and secondary windings, one winding is attached to the terminals for the feed the other goes to the towers for the spark plug wires, one is input the other is output, primary and secondary accordingly simple induction transfering the power from one winding to the other winding. |

Chris youre right- but Jetski didnt mention any previous issues. Can definitely be the heat- thats a common theme with the Protec... but it does seem strange that it would cause all 4 modules to fail simultaneously if they had previously been OK. Anythings possible but Im guessing its a singular bad connection somewhere preventing the ignition from powering up.
Just my 2 cents... Im going to the lake! |

I would check the oil pressure switch, make sure it's connected right and hasn't gone bad on you, that will take it out as well. the computer is wanting to see oil pressure and if it doesn't then it will shut down the motor.
Tim your assuming that is doesn't act up and there is no intermittant problems, and it wouldn't be unsuaul for a module to go out once some heat gets to the substrait, which will happen after a heat soak cycle, aka turning it off and setting for some time, it's going to still heat up the module and actually see more heat than if it was running. |

That sure seems premature at this point. Based on what Ive read, the Protec will often cause strange driveability problems when it starts to fail- I dont believe Ive ever heard of a "fine one minute dead the next" case. I would look to be sure that the ignition system is getting power before jumping to any conclusions. |

I would say that the Pro-tec system's dead, that's why you don;t have any spark, or there isn't any power to the model.

I have a 1994 Sport Nautique that has the 5.8 351 Pro Boss Engine with Electric Throttle Body Injection. The boat has 580 hours on it. I was out yesterday and the boat was running fine. After sitting for about 1.5 hours in the middle of the lake I go to start the boat. It will not start. Here is what I checked:
1. The boat is getting gas 2. The boat has No spark 3. The fuel pump work 4. The safety switch is hooked up and working properly 5. The fuel pump shuts off after 5 seconds when ignition is turned 6. All breakers are closed non tripped 7. All accessories work 8. Fuel in boat is new Can someone please let me know what else to check or have any idea what might be wrong with my Nautique. Thank you for your help. Jeff |
