I thought PCM recommended 89 octane or better in their engines. I always just run 91 in my SAN, and 89 in the Mustang. probably doesn't make much of a difference.



one observation I have made is that there seems to be a ton of problems that get guys to change the FCC filter frequently. I have never run into this in 15 years and three boats, two carbed, one EFI. I replaced one on my first boat needlessly when I had a problem that turned out to be different. I don't think I do anything to prevent this other than running my boat low and filling frequently. For winter storage, I keep the tank full to the top. I used to use Stabil, but switched the Marvel the last couple years.
What causes this? is it just crappy gas, and I am lucky? I do not fill at a marina, just from the local truck stop.

I did but I had a pretty decent cam too, stock engine reg fine, HO premium gas.

i think I'll run some dry gas in the remainder of the tank in there now until its empty and make the changes. So you normally run high test all season long?

NAPA gold is a good choice, Doc prefers PCM labeled markups, there are others put it's not as much as an issue as an oil filter, Your just pulling the water out of the fuel mainly and depending on how full the tank was and where you bought your gas, marina's are nortorious for water in the fuel, there's going to be some traces of water in it first of the season and sta-bil's not going to fix that.

Thanks for the input guys, do you guys run high test all the time or just to resolve an issue like this?

I have run regular in my nautique since i got it.

How does the fuel go bad over 5 months with stabil in it, or get water in it..condensation?

will run dry, change the fuel filter and run high test. (any suggestions on a brand for the filter, does it matter?) I know you all frown on the Fram OIL filters.

Exactly what 79 said. This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was out for the first time, and it seemed for the first 15 minutes I couldn't get it to plane. When I'd throttle up it would start, then hick-up, and if I pulled the throttle back quick enough it'd stay running. Eventually, it started holding throttle... but yeah, ran her low on the old gas and on the way home put premium in it. Changed the fuel filter (mine had dirt in it), and it ran great in the driveway... albeit, I wasn't slamming the throttle.

water in the gas and old gas too. Run the tank dri replace the separator's filter and add some high octane fuel and call it a day.

I dont think they fluctuated much and were where in a healthy range while this issue was happening.

Unrelated (i think) but i had a temp problem earlier in the day when RWP belt slipped - I re-adjusted then i was fine.

check the fuel filter for any dirt, also could be a dirty injector?

Did you watch the temp and oil pressure when you had the problem?

Hey guys I need your help.I have a 96 with the GT and is fuel injected.

I Got it out for the first time this year today only to be bummed out because after running it for about 30 minutes at various speeds and no issues, it started to bog down when i reached 20mph+/- after taking off. As it bogged down, I would let off slightly and it would stop bogging some and I would actually pick up speed as it seemed to clean itself out...and then I could get my way up to full speed just fine if i wanted and it ran well.

During this same time of the bogging down it did rev up and down slightly at just above headway speed...

Starts and idles fine.

Fuel Filter? Bad fuel?

Sorry for being all over the place, i just want to give as much info about the symptoms that I can. If you need me to clarify just let me know. Thanks guys
