Looks like you did a great job....looking forward to doing it to my boat in the fall/winter. I loved the pic of you all suited up, lol. I gave up on suits years ago.....just where my regular work clothes. You get used to the dust over time. Love the deck idea.......thinking of doing something similar with mine. I agree that the carpet on those decks lead to premature aging.

One more thing on the gelcaot floor that i forgot is that I had to mix with some type of "splatter" stuff (cant remember exactly what the guy at the boat shop gave me) that also helps with that splatter finish.
Thanks for asking on the wood and resin as I know I asked for some advice last year on it. On the wood....I finally found that my local Lowes could order Douglas Fir. It was something like $80 per 14' board. I then used red cedar for the outer stringers. I left one side up while I did the other so I guess that might be what you were looking at if it looked like the old wood? On the resin...the fiberglas budy of mine that worked at the sailboat building shop was able to get the vinyl resin they use for about $20/ gallon along with a discount on the mat and cloth so I just went with that. To make up for not using the epoxy resins, I went thick with the glass, made sure I put zero holes in the floor (I glassed in cedar wood on top of the finished floor to hold the seats) and also decided against going with carpet...so hopefully I wont have water trouble for another 30 years!!! |

You put in the work on the boat as a lot do to keep using and enjoying - Happy boating. Did you ever find new lumber? It almost looks like you reused the old? Which resin did you end up with? Any CPES? |

the floor is all gelcoat. I rolled the white on the floor, rolled and sprayed white on the walls (it took a lot to even it up and fill the pin holes) and then followed it all with blue gelcoat and setting the gun to just spit it out.
One warning though...I was cleaning the top after I did the floor and dripped acetone on the floor. This "smeared" the blue (I guess I never did get the orangepeel off) so then I ended up having to used several gallons of acetone and tons of rags to get all the blue orangepeel off. I thought I ruined it at first but after it all smears to a faded blue with spots, it finally starts to clean up. |

yea, I have read enough on here to know that some (dont know names but I assume Pete is one) HATE when people dont go back with original.
I'm a man, go ahead and tell me what you think about it Pete!! ha ha... IF I did want it original though, I could sand the blue gelcoat off and spray it white and stripe it, then carpet it and redo the old seats (which I still have) and it would be pretty much back to original (besides the motor which was done before I bought it 10 years ago.) |

I meant to post some pics at the end of last year as I finally got this done around September. I spent a lot of time searching for info on this forum and got a lot of helpful and critical info here and just want to thank the regulars on this board.
If anyone has any questions on anything I did (stringers, floor, gelcoat, etc.) in this boat and how I ended up doing stuff, just let me know. Overall, it took about 3-4 months and about $6,000! (I payed someone about $1,000 to help with the gelcoating, which was created by the devil himself.) The rest was materials and new stuff! I think the below link should work to see pictures of start to finish..... And I do need to take some better pics of the finished product, I just havent had time. Ski Nautique Album |
