you really got me fired now with the "most helpful generation to the economy"
have you really ever sat down and thought what has happened the last three years. the reason the economy was so great the past 10 years was from the excess of money flowing through the economy, the banks loosened up on thier lending practices, no more microscopes, no 20% down, anyone with a $10.00 an hour job could by a house, they would get in the house that they paid lets say 150k for....low payments cause they are on an arm, then the property values started to rise then all of a sudden the guy is at 12.00 bucks an hour the house is worth 175k now, because the market is booming...he needs some extra cash, wants a new CC in the drive, maybe a beamer, he goes to the bank, borrows another 25k, bank hands him a check. he still owes the bank 175k, because he is on this f-d up arm that in another year will double his payments, he doesnt look at it this way.he puts some of this money aside so he can make the payments, borrowing money to payback borrowed money
Now this big Pirhana frenzy is starting to weaken, this guy's 5 year arm hits. hes making 12.50 an hour now. here comes the tow truck, hooks up the car, takes the boat and this guy is thrown into forclosure.
Now all these bad loans and good loans out there are bundled up and sold, they still have value over time.....thats now at the point of a government bail out. under 2% of all the homes are in foreclosure...it really isnt bad debt because people are still struggling to make payments to the new bank that owns the loan, in no way is it a lose situation for the bank
now that 175k house is worth 120k, which is where the value of the dollar goes down.
alot of the boom we seen in the 90's and early 2000's was because of this and my grand parents and many to the likes and even parents saved every penny they earned, accumlating wealth and they passed and the money fell into the hands of the siblings, easy come easy go.......
I own one credit card, it is for my shop, thats it.
we got a violent raping, 40% to 70% hits on IRA's, 401's
it creates a recession or a better term depression, it puts the fear back into people and they pull back on thier frivalous spending and the cycle starts again.....the governmant steps in and tries to fire the economy by dumping money into infastructure and tries to create jobs, the problem though is were getting to a point to where there is more people than jobs because all the manufacturing went over sea's, unemployment will hit 12%, and the division will begin, and the middle income families will disolve to a poverty status....its not a conspiracy, it is happening whether you believe it or not

im from the generation that looks back and see "kids" fianace and re-finance to over the value of what they owe, BMW in the drive, both parents working to stay current, drop thier kids off at the daycare...they get home and dont have time for thier kids, hands them a play station and a bag of Mcdonalds skipping the dinner table , I really do have a clue....I'll stop there, this country has the funds to make sure that every person inside of its walls to be covered by GOOD coverage...why not, the insured are paying for the un-insured anyways and just dont know it. i dont think your generation has family values....but thats my opinion

I would not call it discrimantion or selfishness.... I call it self-aware.

I do have a drink now and again. I pay the "sin tax" by choice when I have a drink.
I am not given the same opportunity for paying someones health care when they have smoked all their lives or riden a motorcycle with no helmet. Lets have a donation setup for these needs.

My generation is not referred to as the "Me", "My", or "I" generation. But the "Baby Boomer" generation. The most successful and helpful generation to the economy to date. We are still waiting for these "Me", "My", and "I" generations to show us what you got...
We take/took care of our Parents and Grandparents as they could count on us. What I see now is the middle aged children moving back into there parents home and the grandparents alone in their final years.

What generation are you proud to be a member of ?

Ya notice how the price of gas is creeping up again, the old towel muffins are holding the crude off the coast again creating "a shortage" in Nordic tankers....as thier stock prices rise...

Eric, I can't quite picture you at the pulpit...

How 'bout this, I saw in the WSJ yesterday that the pubs may force the dems to read the climate bill on the floor...so they're going to hire a speed reader.

At least SOMEONE will read this bill before an up and down vote?!!?

Eric, there will always be the exception. We will never be able to stop all health issues.

But for those that smoke to expect me to keep them alive with all the information out today that proves that it causes cancer, is way outta line.

Azeus made a good point, in my country, the Peronism has become a way to keep the poor masses poor, feed them with crap and motivate them to live without producing, they riot and ask for money or things, but never for work.
But hey, guess who their votes goes to every time?
This segment here represents a mayority and can turn you any election, it's not a minority.
How's that over there?=

Discrimination??? Come on, that is a stretch.

To some extent, I think you are right, Eric. Sometimes bad stuff just happens to otherwise good people, but I do believe you can have a large impact on your own health. Not smoking, not drinking too much, and eating right will definetely yeild better results than the opposite. Excersizing on a regular basis helps too. Like you said, welfare pisses me off and now, to throw gas on the fire, we are going to have to pay for the same person go to the doctor that we pay to sit around on their ass and smoke cigs all day. Tell me, where is the motivation to do anything or better yourself? To get yourself out of this bad situation? No, no, Obama can't have that because that person might actually not vote for him next time. He needs as many people dependent on the government as he can so the dems can hold the power as long as possible.

My other point is that we already have "universal" health care. Medicare/medicaid cover children and the elderly and the fact that you can walk into any hospital in the country and they can not refuse to help you. They are required by law to help you.

I am not saying that I am better because I went to school Eric, I am saying I am better because I take responsibility for myself.

Eric-
I just call it like I see it that's all. Not sure what generation your wife is from, but I am 28. I do have great health care because I went to school for 4 years and struggled to find a decent enough job to provide it (Not real easy right now). Not saying that if your job does not give you health care it is not decent or good, but that was one of the reasons I did go to school. I always had good jobs while in HS and college. They paid well and I had fun doing them, but knew at some point I would not be able to use my parents health care anymore, so I decided I would do what it would take to get myself to a point where I could get a job that would provide HC to myself and my family.

FWIW, I do not take any prescriptions and very rarely go to the doctor or call in sick to work. Probably average less than 1 sick day/yr (judging by my co-workers, that is pretty low).

I really do not try to fire you up, but do enjoy the debate!

Azues, you always get me going, your probably from my wifes generation, you get a little itch on the old sack and off to the Doctor you go, probably got great insurance, 40 prescriptions in the cabinet, but you still got the itch, immune to penicilin cause you grew up on it
I think the angle the gov is going to take is education, one time fee for all testing, no frivalous malpractice suits,
somebody needs to step in.
I have not seen one bad comment from these guy's on socialized medicine,
thier happy they have coverage, if you break your arm you dont wait, itchy sack you do lol

Moffoot, I differ with you on the Cuba medicin statement, people from all over the world go to Cuba for the most specialised issues.

They have many other issues, but medicin certainly isnt one of them.

Bruce, My dad grew up in the Bishops Bend neighborhood, he talked about swimming in the Pawtucket river when he was a kid. When I was a kid we walked across it. 100 years off textile dyes and waste from junk jewelery plating being dumped directly into the river.

What a great education we got growing up in some hard knock American Mill towns eh? I drive though there once a year while visiting and the stories run out of my head for weeks. Dana loves listening to me ramble when I go home. Life is good guys and don't you forget it.

I follow you Greg. My dad grew up on a farm in Iowa. Had enough of the cold, shoveling snow etc, so he moved to GA when I was 2. Been here ever since. We may need a wet suit up a GL just to be able to take a dip in the frigid water up there.

The idea of GOV health care is scary. Take a look at the former USSR or Cuba. Socialized medicine is BAD for us all. I think the term " Just take em' out back and shoot em'" would really apply like previous posts have stated.

See here, we turned a potentially abrasive political discussion into talk of spring! LOL

I've never lived up north so I don't know what I'm talking about, but we have had a lot of family visit down here. There's always something in the conversation about 'I wish my job and friends were down here in the south'.

My grandfather also talked highly of growing up in Wisconsin. It's all relative and I can't wait to see the frozen north!

And this is somehow going to get better when the government steps in and makes it free for everyone to go to the doctor for a hang nail? Magically, more doctors are going to appear? I think just the opposite. When Big Brother regulates all the profits out of halthcare, why go through 12 years of school to be a doctor.

Government healthcare = more patients, less doctors, lower quality

At the clinic, you may feel like a number now, Eric, but wait until it is a government agency and you will literly be a number. Kind of like all other agencies (DMV), "Now serving number 23B!" Sad part is, you are holding number 14E...
