I don't think I've ever read about anyone flipping the plastic insert. I have read of folks flippin the rope insert. I thought that the plastic inserts (which you can order in different colors were convex and only went in one way. Obviously, ICBW.
I have seen two types of installations: 1) fill the holes with epoxy and redrill. Two, chalk line or grease pencil line at every hole, and reuse the existing holes. Personally I'd buy new screws. My time in having to do it again is two valuable. I would buy new screws and know that I won't have to do it again as long as I own this boat. BKH |

I just received a new rub rail I ordered from Whitelake. I had two options when ordering the rub rail.
1. Rub rail kit with rubrail, black insert, screws, and end caps. $496 2. Rub rail only $219 I ordered the rub rail only and plan on trying to reuse the insert and end caps and buy new screws. I have read other posts where people have done this by flipping the insert and using the unexposed side on the new rub rail. The problem I think I may have is that the the rub rail is pretty smashed up at the bow and the insert appears to be almost flat at the nose of the bow. Will this be a problem? I'm hoping with a little heat I can make this work. What do you think? any suggestions or tips? I plan on removing all the screws then filling the holes with epoxy, 5200, or caulk (which would be best?) than drilling new holes and and using new screws. Any tips or suggestions are, as always, very much appreciated. |
