I ended up just using a stock Teleflex one i had in stock, they are only OEM cables the correct one as (correct my numbers if im wrong) a standard cable is 8.5" throw where a correct craft one is 10.5" as i said i used the standard one had to cut about an inch off the mounting tube to make it fit and the turning circle is a bit bigger (as the rudder does not go as hard) but to be honest it has never bothered me at all, also i think for my boat i had to use the 16' instead of the 15.5 but that wasn't a problem just a bigger loop up the front,
im going completely Against your advise on this one sorry Pete! but for living on New Zealand the Standard one was really the only option in the end, So to do it correctly yes you do have to buy one from a Correct Craft Dealer but if you dnt want to spend the money or cant get hold a CC one in your area you can make a standard one work Pete also earlier in the year we discussed that making the tiller arm shorter will make the helm to heavy or risk over loading the system, i punched the numbers into a document we use for specing steering systems on new boats and found that the loads would not be very different at all and is still well inside the specs for a cable steering system, infact its well under the loads they use them for on outboards, just thought ild let you know, i still agree the Corret Cable would be better but $450 vs $50 (for me here) i could not justify it. |

swc,
I feel you have better switch dealers. He sure doesn't know what is going on. Take the advice above. Steering cables are one of the only items that must be OEM on some year models. It's really not the length but the throw that makes a difference. Welcome to the site. Did you just find CCfan? Get you boat and a short story together and Keith can get into the diaries for you. |

I'm also trying to get a steering cable for a '98 Nautique - I'm being told by a dealer that the manuf. has none and no plans to make any - It's a 19.5' cable and the dealer is saying a 20' cable will work with just extra 6" in the boat - Does anyone know about this? Will a 20' conventional Teleflex work or do I need Clevis/adapter of some sort?

I believe, but am not positive, that the custom length started with the 2001 model. My 81 as would your 80 took a 17' stock length. By the way, although this can be done by yourself get a friend to help. Another set of hands would have made this a quick job for me, it was sort of a pain alone. I also had to remove by pulling from the stern and install helm end first. DO use a rope taped to the old cable though, it really helps. |

Give Bruce a call at Midwest Correct Craft or whatever they call it these days. He'll know what you need and if they have it in stock you will save about 30% as they're liquidating everything. I just picked one up for my 81 and got a better price than anywhere on web. (260) 833-2226.

My local dealer can't tell me what steering cable I need unless I take it out.
Can anyone let me know where I could get an answer to the length of the steering cable for a 1995 Ski Nautique? Thank you |

Jonathan, Nope!!!! Skidim only has the generic cables of even lengths. Since you've only been with us since April of this year, you've probably missed that CC used odd length plus extra stroke cables. OEM part only! |

Anyone know where to get replacement steering cable for a 1995 SN? (other than at a dealer)
Are they truly only available through CC dealers? Thank you |
