I though it was and a friend who's seen a few propshafts said he hadn't seen it. I checked several ways, but it's almost foolproof. The 'mortise' is down close to the threads.

That's a nice idea on the pinned key. Makes it easy to locate so the people who may not be the best at installing a prop won't bottom the prop on the key instead of the taper.

A whole 1/8" ?!!?   LOL

I guess with my strut not bored on dead center that it's not as efficient as it could be. Heck, it's not a Fountain and we water tested it all day yesterday...no worries. Even got a new boarder up and running for the first time.
The smile on someone's face when they first figure it out is priceless!

Wait 'till you're back in this neighborhood and I toss you into the rail with one of those hard 90's!

Greg - Quality isn't what it use to be! On the new strut I bought last year, one of the mounting holes was 1/8 inch off center. They must have located it with a centerpunch!

Yes, I have much to do, but the new shaft is installed in this pic. That's the strut on the right. The casting wasn't bored on the centerline.

No 2nd happiest days around here!

I got a new driveshaft(thanks Correct Parts), and it is very nicely made. It even has a pinned woodruf key; haven't seen that before.

I did lap it on, but there wasn't much to do. The prop was cleaned up by delta last year and hasn't seen the bottom since...great fit. Pete, the hardest part of that was keeping the shaft from turning while I was trying to do it.

The marks on the rudder look like grinder tracks. I used a straight file to clean it up, but that only exaggerated the deepest marks.

I have confidence in you that you got the strut correctly mounted. Looks good from this end!!

I see you did some prop/shaft lapping. Where there any noticeable high spots or any indication the taper was off?

What are all the marks on the rudder from? Running lake Lanier with low water? BTW, how's the lake level this year? Unless I missed it, I didn't see any reports on it.

The hull in the strut mount area was badly busted out some years ago on the BFN. The repair it got was failing when I bought it, so I did my first real fiberglass repair way back in pre-CCFan times. I did a lot of research and was lucky enough to have a couple of friends with glass experience, and the repair came out pretty well.

I messed up 2 things. I built it back and made a nice edge around it that I was so proud of. Just cut it off.

And I used a 2x4 with routed edges to form the glass, but I missed the angle slightly and have had the strut shimmed since. Just cut it out. LOL

The final part was to lower the engine a bit so I could be rid of the spacer that gets in the way of Amy's vacuum.

I found out from the PO that the log had never been moved, so I worked from there.

Now the strut feels like part of the boat...and I'll finish the gel when I know the cutting is over!
