Didn't hurt too bad, but it did leave a grease spot that my wife got a kick out of.

Guys, thanks for the help.
Got home and removed the controls. I noticed there was a ball bearing sitting in the bottom on the housing. This was jamming against the control lever. I assumed the bearing goes under the spring and presses against the control lever to act as a stop and indicate to the operator that it is in gear. It took a while to get the bearing in place. ***Note: Do not move the throttle lever after the bearing and spring are installed, the bearing will come out and hit you in the lip.*** Greased and install, works perfect. Thanks for the info. |

It's not a big deal, just make sure to take notes on where everything is. You may have a loose lever in the back, or you may have to take it apart and grease it.

This weekend started out fun, then things went down hill.
Boat is a 1979 SN. After circling around to pick up a skier, I throttled down and the engine shut off (no big deal). Went to start it back up and it kept flooding out. Usually a little time fixes the problem and it will fire up. Just as it was cranking up, i had the throttle knob pulled out (neutral) and pulled the throttle lever back to rev the engine, now the throttle lever will not go back to center position. It feels like something inside the throttle control is locked up and the lever is stuck wide open in the pulled back position (reverse). The neutral knob is still pulled out. Has anyone ever taken the throttle level controls apart? If so, how do you get it off the gunwale? Any suggestions? |
