Joe,
I have a friend with a 88. He's not even going to bother with a attempt to repair/patch the mufflers. The mufflers are notoriously weak/flimsy plus some kind of mystery plastic. He's currently putting 3" copper in their place. Just another option. |

I used Waterweld by JB Weld this week-end on my muffler. It ran 4 hours without a leak (so far so good). I can't vouch for it long term but I had the boat in the water and running about an hour after I put it on so it cures quickly if you are looking for that. The stuff is an off white color so it doesn't look pretty on the black muffler but it appears to bond very well.

I would scuff it up and put some epoxy it. It worked for me. I just want to get through this season and replace mufflers with Stainless straight pipes.
Be sure to do it when it will have time to fully cure. |

I have finished my stringer job and put the engine back in. I reassembled everything and ran the engine on the hose in the driveway and found some fresh water leaks. This is the second time I have ran the engine since the test drive/purchase. The muffler has two small pin holes that drip every 10 seconds when the engine is running with water. It was manufactured by centek and I couldn't find this specific muffler on their web site. Should I clean up the holes and epoxy them or would it be better to find a used muffler? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am putting this boat in the water next weekend and a few drips aren't going to stop us from riding.
