The item you were looking for is a garboard plug or to laymen a bilge drain plug. A bung is a plug used to plug a hole in a wooden plank or a barrel.

It probably has a bronze tee-handle screw-in plug, and it drains right out the bung thru the center of the keel.

I did see something there and I gave it a tug but as this is my first boat I was unsure weather it screws in or just pushes in and didn’t want to force it and break it, also where does it drain out from? The prop shaft maybe?

On my '78 the drain is in the center of the bilge in front of the engine and behind the pylon. Does this answer your question?

Does anyone know where the bung might be on a 1980 Barefoot Nautique? There is not one under the swim platform where I expected it to be and can’t find one anywhere, I assume it does have one.

Any help much appreciated.
