Hi will take some pictures now, and post up. As a brief update, after some online research, I have decided to fit an FE36 gas (non powder) extinguisher as it seems that if the powder one goes off then as well as putting the fire out it will stop the engine when ingested,whilst stopping the engine is good, the powder ingestion can necessitate an engine rebuild, and as well as that the powder is a hell of a mess to clean up afterwards .
Re your question what triggers it, is a heat sensitive bulb that blows the xtinguisher at 80 degrees C The auto extinguishers can go off without fire, and this is what pointed me at the non powder FE36 type I wouldnt want an engine cleanup & rebuild as a result of a nuisance trigger.

here is the extinguisher spec

James, I have never seen the fire extinguishing system on the 2001 models. How is the system activated? Are there extguishing lines that direct the agent todifferent parts of the engine compartment or is the bottle just mounted somewhere and it's contents released once a melting disk melts? Can you post more pictures to show us what we are dealing with?

Bump Commissioning the Boat ready for use this summer after a long lay up (2yrs )
Scratching my head and looking at positions for mounting favourite is fron LH side of Engine cover vertical with the head pointing down
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated

Club scrutineer reccomended I change the auto fire extinguisher in the Engine Compartment so I promptly removed to find it was dated 1989 so must have been original eqt when new either by CC or Dealer Anway it was absolutely empty not surprising for 20yrs old ! However It was a Firemaster Gt700 at .7Kg Halon 1211 ( not allowable now ). However when selecting the replacement I read thge online fire extinguisher choice guides and it appeared that a dry powder was sufficient as the modern Halon equivalent FE36 appears only to be necessary for computer room and complex electronics ie ECU's etc so I ordered a 1Kg Dry Powder ( although I noted that the FE36 at 1kg covered more of a compartment volume so appears to be more efficient for its size)
there didnt seem to be any .7kg versions available . However its now arrived and ........its Enormous see second piccie for comparison ( next Post ) I tried putting it in the original; Brackets see piccie and it Fouls the top of the engine .. not only that but the original clearance must have been miniscule as even when i close the lid with just the clips there closed it fouls the engine . Sop my questions for advice are

Having Bought it ( mail order ) can I install it ??

Are there any other fitting positions eg down by Rails by Raw Water pump ? does it have to be on the top of the engine ??
Any other positions / alignments reccomended eg longtitudinally at the rear of the carb?

or should i attempt to return it and try harder to locate one identical in size to the original?
