I have a custom cover made by Otto's Canvas in Arthur, IL. It is VERY durable and I got it for towing. It works good! They make covers for agricultural equipment and custom biminis for pontoons and any type of boat. I just dropped mine off and gave them a idea of what I was looking for. Very pleased.
I don't know if I would spend 600 bucks and leave it out all winter without a $20 tarp over it to take the beating. I do that in my own barn! I can give you their number if you wish. A few hour drive is worth a custom fit cover if you ask me. |

Tim - That's what I do for the winter (indoor storage). I have a tarp over the cover so the cover doesn't get so dirty.

I know it may seem like overkill but after you spend the money on a fitted cover would it be "Strange" to put a cheap tarp from walmart or such over the fitted cover. Let the $10 tarp take the brunt of the sun,rain and snow. You'd save alot more $$ this way if you don't go ahead and put her under a more permanent fixture.

I'd be interested in a cover for an '80 Nautique and a Century Resortrer 16. What is your pricing? I paid $150 for a custom fit cover for the Nautique on E-bay that I am very happy with. |

I have a cover for a 98 Air Nautique, has tower pockets. Is made of a thick green fabric but I don't know what brand it is. I am not dure if is waterproff. It was part of a deal when I bought the tower. If interested let me know. Seems to be in good condition. I can take pictures.

Rankin covers are supposed to be nice. I bought one 3 months ago and have not got it yet, so I can not really tell you for sure, but I will when it gets here
 . Maybe I could just sell you mine seeing how I am now trying to sell the boat and don't think I will get the money back out of the cover. I had them add flaps to access the cleats. It is a really dark navy blue color. Let me know if you are interested.

One of my covers is a Carver, very nice cover right out of the box, it fit very well including around the tower legs and platform, also has loops all around the perimeter for tying down to trailer or as necessary, it did not have any concessions for cleats/lift rings access or tent poles although I am on a covered lift so really did not need that anyways.

Thanks for the responses guys.
The boat has been extremely well cared for and I get comments all the time from people about how good it looks for a 90. It's not a project boat that I just want to toss a tarp over. That said, I don't know of any good options for storing the boat inside. In response to the comments about the snow, I do make an extra effort in the winter to keep the snow off. I've got a wooden framework that I put in the boat to help support the cover in the center and eliminate pooling. It seems to work well. It sounds like the general concensus is to get an exact fit cover, which I intend to do. I guess I'm debating whether or not the Sunbrella material is worth almost twice the cost. If they all last the same amount of time, what's the benefit? |

Agreed. I cant imagine a cover lasting very long if its left out in the snow. Ive built some tall wooden supports and tarped boats that sit outside all winter. I wouldnt expect a cheap cover to hold up to snow and I wouldnt want to ruin a nice one. If your boat is a project like my boats were at the time, Id go the tarp route. If you value the boat, I would strongly consider looking for indoor storage or shrinkwrap instead. |

Where I am, rain beats up our covers. We used the poly duck for the boat that was covered by the boat house roof..... also had skirting to protect the sides. The skirting adds a lot of material so the light fabric was good, esp. when trying to put on in a hanging lift. When not under cover, the Sunbrella stuff is great.... much longer lasting for me. No skirting for trailering........ that material sails at highway speed.......
We scrub down our covers and re-spray them with water repellent every year or so. You are on the money with good fit.... pooling water is hard on a cover and the interior. Snow - hard to expect a cover to last on it's own with Indiana snow...... maybe Virginia snow 
Skiboatcovers.com did the covers for our Excel, Air206 and Tique. All different boats and materials - all fit well. Get one from a place that has the right patterns for a good fit.... I think that is the make or break......... |

I've got a 1990 Sport Nautique that gets stored outside year round. The current cover is shot and I need to get a new one. I've had three of the same cover, none of which seem to have lasted for the 5 years they were supposed to. I'm curious what people have experienced with cover life and what the recommendation might be in terms of manufacturer as well as material.
I know I want an exact fit cover, but I'm not sure if the high dollar material is worth the extra money. The boat lives in Indiana, so it sees plenty of sun and heat in the summer in addition to cold weather and snow in the winter. Any thoughts? |
