Thanks everybody for the good info. I downloaded the Interceptor manual from CCF and finally got to the end where the trans info is. It is an exceptional read. It's great having a cool ass boat and the support of a team of likewise enthusiast's at CCF. Now, about that gas station...

Pete, The 256 that is in my Atom has a Velvet Drive. Why it came with that and the 312 the Dearbo is beyond me. I do like the way the Dearbo works in the Classic and will not change it unless it fails, then a VD is going in as I have 2 bell housings and 2 VD trans for a Y block.

I wish my Mustang could be converted to a Velvet Drive.

Larry,
I just saw you diaries listing and emailed you via it regarding the trans. Just so everyone else knows, you have a Dearbomatic trans. The 312's were available with it as well as the B/W Velvet drives. Because the Dearbo was made by the sister company of Interceptor, it was the less expensive choice of CC. The manual (get a 312 manual from marineengine.com) calls for 1&1/2 quarts of type A. Hard to get and not needed. Use Dexron/Mercon.

BTW, Eric can work on the Dearbo's even though he doesn't like to!!!!

Kapla,
Thanks for the reply for the tranny fluid. I though I'd read somewhere here someone put the wrong fluid in theirs and it blew the seals so I didn't want to take a chance on the wrong kind. I wasn't sure it is even an automatic trans because it doesn't actually "shift". Anyway, nice to hear from a platinum member and I can only imagine boating in Argentina! Looks like you've got a good strong boat too! Go fast and swerve.

Hello all, I am trying to figure out the make of the trans in my 1962 Tournament Skier. It has a Ford 312 Interceptor engine (Ford Dearborn)and I think it is also a Ford transmission though I'm not sure. The only identification is the number DRO 2168 stamped on the housing. I would like to change the fluid but I don't know what to use. I listed the boat in Diaries but I have yet to figure out how to add the pic I took of the trans to this message. However, the boat is in fine working condition and I am looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come. Thanks
