Roger,
I know exactly where you are. My son graduated from NMU. He also had some acquaintances though the years that attended MTU even though I understand that NMU students don't mix well with the Tech students!! |

Was just wondering, thought three lakes might have been home and that would of put your "up North" near me. I'm about two hours north of three lakes.

Sounds like a great plan Pete. I've got very similar goals, albeit different location and a different time frame (unless I hit the Powerball).

Roger,
Yes, Craig is correct that "up north" is Three Lakes. If things work out, I hope to be up there permanently within a couple of years. I've been going up there all my life. I as well as my wife and two children are really attached to the area. My grandfather bought land up there in 1940. I hope to break ground for my shop in spring to keep myself busy!! |

If I were a betting man I'd say it's where Pete has his boat(s), as is listed in his signature, Three Lakes, Wisconsin.

Now that's funny! Pete, Must be on your side of the country. The NAPA down here in Mcdonough has got the stack of books on the counter as a back up in case they can't find it in their "MagicBox". I've been there several times where they resorted to doing it the old fashion way. |

Greg,
The salesperson at the auto supply where I finally got the kit actually asked me "why are you comming into a auto supply for a marine part"!! My responce was that I have for many years knowing that they (auto supplies) know more about engines that a boat store ever will!! I go to a boat store for dock bumpers and a auto supply for engine parts/machine work!! He actually got a kick out of my statement - he must know what it's like walking into a boat store!!! |

In my experience, 'boat' is not what they want to hear. I ski behind a '88 suburban/motorhome/blazer.

I remember years ago Pete my Dad telling me napa used to have 3 different price lists, I wonder which one they use now. I also wonder if it would have been less down here. You could also go to autozone and that way your parts would not get stuck from being in too long
I got a good deal a number of years ago on a closeout of a boat parts distributor, they sold the Aqua Power line, $5 for points, rotor and condenser and $10 for the flat cap so I'm set for awhile |

Gary,
Out of curiosity, I just looked up the price at West Marine. $45.00!!! Wow, I would have been better off going with them. I'm in shock as the auto supply up north charged me $52.00!!! |

Bruce,
Yes, unlike the automotive version of the 312, Interceptor used the Mallorys. The parts turned out to be a complete kit including the cap. Sierra # 18-5271. This is the single point with the top terminal cap. I could have gone to West Marine on this one and would have been better off than walking into Napa!!! |

Pete, If you don't plan to change plugs for another 28 years maybe a little anti - seize is in order.

I was at a Nappa buying some stuff for our 312 and the manager was a 312 guy, but because it had a Mallory distributor he told me to bring the points in. I've found with my PCM 240 with Prestolite dist, they can match those points up, but only if I give them a set to work from.

Bruce,
No, the boat was up north and the first Napa I went to was down here. I like to do as much as possible before going up since my time up there is limited at times. The auto parts stores up north are a 20 mile trip. |

I went into my at home Napa several weeks ago looking for tune up parts for my 312. You know the one that hasn't been touched in 28 years!! Well anyway even with the model and part number of the Mallory distributor they had problems. Even Napa seems to have the problem that if it's not in the computer they don't know what to do. The old days of looking through the book are gone. Well, I got up north and all the parts were wrong!! Went to my "up north" Napa and they too were useless. Went down the street to another auto supply and he did find a listing for a complete distributor kit for the Mallory. Had it the next day and did the job. Points were eroded into a cup shape but still functioning and the plugs had carbon built up but the electrodes looked pretty good and the insulators were a light to medium brown. BTW, it wasn't fun getting those plugs out after all that time. I didn't break any though!!
