There are different methods for checking the fluid depending on the tranny. On my 82 (1:1) the book says put it all the way in and check it. On my 95 (1.23:1) the manual says to put it in until it rests on the first O-ring, then shows a couple of different types of dipsticks and gives some confusing BS about them and checking hot or cold.
I have seen some sticks that are black and have no flat edge ground into it, impossible for me to tell the fluid level. On my friends we polished it a bit and made some marks, so you could see the fluid. You may want to try and buy another one with a flat polished adge and calibrate it. Check the reference sections to see what yours looks like and how to check the level. |

some oils have more red dye in them for easier viewing, Valvoline is closer to clear than red. i wonder if we could add food color dye to bring out the color more? i dont think it would hurt anything....anyone want to try it?

John - I have same problem, can't read the level, fluid too clean! I even tried to scuff up the metal so it would show more contrast. I just went on faith that I put enough in & it hasn't leaked out.

first off, do you insert the T-handle plug all the way to check dipstick or until it rests on housing ?
I can't read the dipstick, can't see the fluid level on the dipstick. Can see the FULL and LOW marks just fine. It's there, as soon as I wipe it off, I see it on the rag. And I can see it drip, but I can't see it on the dipstick. thanks, cheers, John |
