Mine is a bit of a bear to steer as well, they drive/handle in a whole different world than the direct drive.

I always joke around with people that i was the guy that worked on the steering on the boat that went up into the stands a few years back at Sea-world over here, luckily no one got killed

I agree that you need to go through the system as Pete is suggesting. Do note that those boats have only one skeg, and are quite tail heavy. My 92 BFN was a bear to turn. I always thought about adding a fin or two to it.

Rick,
You'll need to isolate where the binding is. Disconnect the cable from the tiller arm and then manually turn the rudder. If it feels pretty easy, turn the wheel and see if you still get the binding. I'd say it's very possible you'll need a new steering cable.

recently purchased 91 Excel. We only used it twice before the end of the season. When I make a 180 turn, the steering is EXTREMELY hard (needing two hands) under power. Then I have to forcefully bring it back straight. The first 1/4 of a turn each way seems normal. It doesnt feel like a bind, it feels like a load, maybe on the rudder. While stopped the steering feels normal. Any ideas ????
Previous owner said "the boat is made just to go straight" (Bologna!)
Thanks for any help.
Rick
