Lee,
Mine wasn't hard to crank at all. Fired right up every time, hot or cold until this pump went out. Last year at the beginning of the season, it did quit like this, but we played with the throttle body injectors a little and I didn't have any problems after that, until this season. I guess it was trying to tell me something. I thought it was just a bad tank of gas, or loose wire on the injectors. Good luck, hope yours keeps running for ya. |

Hey Dan, Thats great! You got her fixed, so it was the fuel pump. I put mine in the water wednesday, and boat ran awsome. But after mine got hot, and running for a while, mine died a couple times, for what reason I dont know. Last september, I had my mechanic fix the problem I had, rebuilt the carb, new points, but idles low at first, and after it gets hot she idles back up where she is suppose too. I am thinking something is about to go out on mine, we will have to see. Was your's hard to crank? Mine was, at first, I am thinking of tuning her up boat she fires up when hot. Fuel pump, huh.. Well at least you got it fixed my friend. I am hoping mine was just a hiccup and no probs. |

I got the new fuel pump on, and now it runs great in the driveway. I also opened the fuel control cell canister and changed the filter. When I was checking things out in there, I noticed the previous owner didn't set the high pressure pump correctly in the canister, and it kink put a huge kink in the output line, so I replaced that hose. It needed to be replaced anyway, since it was the old clear vinyl hose that was prone to cracking. I am curious to see if this will take care of a small hesitation that happens every now and then during a rapid acceleration. Hopefully, I can get it on the water today or tomorrow. Weather's kinda dreary, but what's new, it's a typical pacific northwest day.
BTW, Lee, my girlfriend finally realized if she want to spend time with me while the boat isn't working, she gonna have to help. She actually did the install on this one! |

I am waiting on a new low pressure pump. It should be here thursday. I connected the existing one to 12 volts and put in a can of gas and it would not prime or pump with a six inch hose on it. Also, I put a hand pump on the line out of the tank, and was able to easily pump fuel out of the tank, hopefully ruling out a clogged pick up in the tank. So I am pretty confident that the new pump will fix the problem. I will let you know after I install the new one (hopefully will be complete friday).

After I got my strut and engine aligned, I took my boat out for a leak test on the river. It fired right up. I let it idle for about 10 minutes then drove away from the dock. About 400 yards away, I brought the rpm to about 1500-2000 and the engine started to bog down. After a couple chugs, it finally quit, and would not start again. There was no fuel getting to the carb (its the TBI). I got a tow back to the doc and brought it home.
Once home, I turned it over and a little fuel went into the carb but not much. Both the low and high pressure fuel pumps run. I went to drain the FCC and hardly any fuel came out, so I looked more into the low pressure pump. I disconnected the output and turned over the engine, but no fuel was pumped out by the LP pump that supplies fuel to the FCC. So I disconnected the supply line and there was fuel about 3 inches down the hose. I also put a line into a gas can, and could not pump any gas through it. Do these pumps wear out, but still run? Or is there a check valve or something else I should be looking into before replacing this pump. I also took the pump apart and nothing seamed to be clogging it. Thanks in advance for your help. |
