Did you, by chance, pick up the SNOB in Michigan? I was watching a '92 SNOB for sale in Oxford.

No, but close... I picked mine up in Wisconsin.

Ian,
If you run the boat is bad water then yes. If nice water then no.

Had the same discussion with a few people on this site. But, I'm with Dave on this one. Didn't have one on mine either, but I'm in for the comfort too, as stated by Dave, so I ordered one from Skidim. Love to see the clutter swirl around in that clear bowl.
The "slender grey cilinder" is indeed the tranny cooler...

People argue for and against using the metal strainers on this site, but I personally am comforted seeing the clear bowl fill each time I start the boat after its been out of the water. I believe the slender grey cylinder is the tranny cooler. Someone wiser than I will give you a definitive answer.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Hi folks,

I just picked up a 1992 snob, has the standard ford 351w pro-tech. Doing the standard spring tune-up work to get the boat ready... I went to clean the water strainer, this is the clear/white plastic screw on container, o-ring seal, with a metal screen strainer... good to clean out regularly. Anyway... to my surprise, there isn't one!

The water intake hose goes from the pick-up in the bottom of the boat, around the tranny and through a slender grey cylinder, then under the motor straight up front to the water pump/impeller.

Is this an issue? Should I have a strainer? Was this common in some boats?

Thanks!
