RJ....I forgot that you work at Mecca in Milwaukee. Nice looking FLHT. Did you do some custom black out work on the bike? Looks a lot like the new Street Glide. What are some of your favorites for the older iron. Knuckleheads, Panheads, Shovelheads??

I really like the '97 Heritage Softail Springer (white w/ red stripe). Old school looks w/ new technology performance.

my latest - 02 FLHT

I wont talk about the bikes sold to buy the SANTE. I wouldn't go back or change a thing, but I do have a love for the older iron. Can't keep them all.....

You too, Gary. My daughters are getting to the age I was when I got the bike and I've got to get it in a little better shape so that they can get some time in on it while they are young. Also, I'd love to swap out my handlebars for some with a little wider grip as I think they feel safer and it wouldn't feel so squirrely, but I don't really want to mess with the originality. I also think I'm going to just buy another carb as a spare since the carb is the only thing that ever gives trouble and that's usually just b/c I don't run it enough. A spare would be nice to have.

You hardly used yours ,but I would like to know how far I've gone too. I'm on my 3rd rear tire,2nd front and second set of brakes.Had to replace all the wheel bearings after the 1st year, the 1st time I got to ride it was on Sanibel Island beach.Try doing that today! I semi restored it in the early '90s,was able to get nos parts real cheap then, new bars, seat, tail light assy.I repainted the wheels, but all other paint is original. Not even remotely perfect but every scratch has a story.I also have a ct70 that I use regularly. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, lots of memories on this bike. My dad took the training wheels off of my banana seat bike and put them on the z50. First time on it, I ran it straight into a tree. I'd love to know how many miles are on the bike. All of them would be within about a 1 mile radius of my childhood home. At some point, my little sister got the bike and my dad bought me an old beater kawasaki g5.

The z50 and a Toyota pickup truck that I had in high school must be the most well engineered vehicles i've ever operated. Both run/ran great.

The z50 and a .22 Browning rifle are about the only two things I have that aren't for sale, ever, period.

Here's my first bike and yes I still have it.

1978 Z50 delivered by Santa Clause himself on December 24th or early 25th 1977.

It's all original except for the back tire, headlight and seat cover. Carb has been giving trouble, but I could have it running in 15minutes if I had to.

Yes Kansas is the land where the "Flint Hills" are the attraction. They remind me of hills with grass growing on them . . . I found the best attraction in Kansas to be the giant Windmill farm, I really did find that kind of fascinating.

I can just imagine Patti sleeping on the back of our bike! We came across the PA Turnpike in the rain one time and I asked her how she liked it..said she had her eyes closed and prayed and sang hymns!
So how is it traveling "acroos the entire state of Kansas"...pretty exciting?

You got mail last night.

When one travels across the entire state of Kansas to get to the mountains of Colorado a back rest is appreciated. The arm rests are there so that Tina can sleep.

Gary
That Z50 is freakin' awesome, and was also was my first bike. I think it was '72 or '73. It burned up in a house fire . I told my wife that if she's looking for my next birthday gift, a sweet CT70 would be nice. I gave her a Craigslist ad that had a nice Trail 70 for $750. She didn't bite. I just bought a third Quad, and two SeaDoos, so my Craiglist buying has been put on hold.
Play hard, life's not a trial run.

I've got an 87 honda XR80R that a I am fixing up as well.   It's not street legal, as it is a dirt bike, but I am planning on having my fiance learn to ride a motorcycle on it. It's got 5 gears, manual clutch and all the standard controls that bikes have. She can drive manual cars, so riding a bike should be simple. If you can be good with a clutch on your left foot, you can be better with a clutch on the left hand.

Yeap, the center stand came with the bike. I almost took it out when I put the pipe but decide to leave for convenience. Also, another thing that was different was the steel braided front brake lines. Other than that, is pretty much stock. I like the bike. It does great in the turns, a lot easier than my 95 Ninja. My cousin was in the Marines stationed in Japan. That's where he bought it. Maybe the next one will be ab ST1300.

If I were to buy a sporty touring bike, the aprilia Futura, yamaha FJR, and the Triumph sprint ST would be at the top of the list.

Did your Honda cbr600F3 come with that centerstand from the factory?

Nice Aprilla Gary.

Not much of a classic but I have a 97 CBR 600F. Same as the USA version of the CBR F3. It was imported from Japan, minor difference like the passenger bar and color. Two brothers pipe, bigger jets, BMC filter.

That's me last summer at the Continental Divide, Tina, my wife took the picture. The Bike is a 1983 GL1100I, it's not-a-Harley :), but it takes me everywhere I'm going when I don't need to trail a boat and the roads don't have ice.

John, I will start a dog thread:)

I'm not into cruiser bikes, but most guys that are like my bike because it sounds great. It is a 1000cc liquid cooled DOHC EFI V twin. It does about 175mph as it is. It's a fun bike that I have personally ridden from the Oregon and California coast all the way to Maine.

Since we are talking about bikes, is anyone heading up to the AMA races at Road America in Elkhart Lake WI from the 3-6 of June?

I will be there with my fiance, and I will be there all week pretty much.

This year the Harley guys have something really interesting to watch this year. Road race converted sportster XR 1200's will be taking on the 4 mile track as a first since they tried this with modded 883s a few years back.

I'm pretty impressed with this picture of a racer (Eric Stump) trying one out at RA just last weekend. Its a stock sportster with a race kit that is basically suspension and a different pipe for ground clearance.

Here's my FXSTC. Been stuck on Harleys for the last three bikes, but I'm a fan of most two wheeled vehicles. Love that 650 bobber project... One of these days I'll do something like that.

Shot of my '96 Heritage Classic. That is me and the famous '79 Nautique. Will never sell this ride.

Like the bike Tom but like the dog in the background even better. Had a Springer, Ms. Mindy for 14 years, lost her to a stroke and still miss her to this day. Got more pics?

My very first ride and drive on a bike was on a Triumph Bonneville when I was about 14 or 15. Remember Bill? I loved them bikes for a long time...till my buddy got a Norton and had lots of trouble with it. But he does still own it.
