There's a lubricant used on swimming pool strainer canisters called Jacks. Available at most pool supply houses. Makes cleaning the strainer on pools a snap, couldn't live without it. I use it on my boat strainer, works nice.

You can’t change the wind but you can adjust your sails

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info, that makes sense. It didn't seem like a good idea for it to ever be anything but see through.
I'll try lubricating the threads then too. When I first put it on, it wasn't quite tight enough and it caused me to get a little air bubble in the bowl, and no water circulation! I snugged it up then it was fine. |

Your white one MAY have been clear when it was new. Some people will suck antifreeze into the motor to winterize and leave the antifreeze in the strainer. It will discolor the bowl. I keep a little plastic/rubber friendly lube on the bowl threads and o-ring.

A.)The clear one will screw right on to the original Sherwood strainer housing. My new clear one screws on with a little more resistance so it's important to make sure it's all the way snugged up.
B.)Water won't leak into the boat when you removed the bowl. I guess the filter assembly is enough above the water line. |

A.)My boat came with a water strainer, that has the white (non see through) bowl. I know you can buy the clear bowls independently. Will this just screw in where my white plastic one was, or is the design of the whole kit potentially different?
B.)Can I do this with the boat in the water or will I get a gusher? I think the bowl is above the waterline, but it's somewhat close. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. |
