Really? "RWP impeller" Now, if the impeller has ever been run without water, then it's a different story. |

If you haven't replaced the impellar in 3 or 4 yrs ,,,,, I'd bet money your main problem is a dried up impeller thats probably missing some blades..... Check with a local marina / boat repair ,,,, they probably have that stuff in stock for less than skidim.

Cary, Make sure it's not the shaft seal on the RWP that's leaking. |

got time to mess around with a bit today and i did find some water leaking under the rwp. so i'm gonna start by replacing all the hoses. i figure while i've got the rwp off i'll probably go ahead and replace the impellar for good measure.

Bad grounds/resistance problems can cause some "overheating" problems, that are really just an error in the way the guage shows.
See if turning on accessories, such as the Navigation lights, changes your temp guage reading. This could be an indication of electrical issues causing the reading. Another indication is other guages, such as fuel guage reading incorrectly. |

I also had an overheating problem (only at idle). Found lots of stuff wrong (not causing my problem). My boat had no thermostat, and the impeller was worn. Replaced both to no avail. Ended up being a crack in the hose at the bottom of the tranny cooler. . It was along the clamp and could hardly notice it until I removed the hoses for a close inspection. From what I hear, overheating under load most likely is attributed to the efficiency of the circulation system, impeller/water pump/obstructions. Overheating at idle mostly is from sucking air, cracked line/insufficient strainer seal.

Check for loose hoses, or strainer holder that could be letting in air and inspect the impellar,as these would be free. Replacing the impellar and thermostat would be the first places I would spend money.

I would replace the gasket along with the thermostat. When I replaced my impeller, I went with the kit that included the gasket and o-ring as well. Also, be sure to get the 143* thermostat.

I have a 92 ski nautique with 650 hours on it. Owned it for 10 years now with normal maintenance, and it has never had any serious problems. Here lately it's been running pretty hot staying close to 180 and after some hard driving it was pushing 200. And theres considerable white smoke from exhaust at high speeds. The impellar was replaced 3 or 4 years ago, but the general consensus I've read on here is try the impellar and thermostat first. Should this be my starting point?
Skidim seems to be most of yalls store of choice so I checked them out. If I was to replace the thermostat, do I need to go ahead and buy the other hardware such as gaskets, housing, seals, etc? Very limited mechanical knowledge. Thanks, Cary |
