MD,
I'm glad that you were able to fix your boat. I hate that you replaced so many parts when it was an inexpensive fix all along. This site is a great resource with a lot of knowledgeable people. Please describe your problem and ask questions first. It may save you some time and money. I'm glad I could help, but wouldn't have been able to without the help of Vince at Discount Inboard Marine. "79nautique" has given good solid advice on a lot of problems, but in this case he was shooting from the hip. I'm glad you didn't start replacing more parts and spend more money. |

The hose inside the fuel canister is hooked to the high pressure pump. If it is cracked you will not get the 39 psi required. The pressure gets equalized. Mine was a simple and inexpensive fix once I got the information. Make sure you remove it to inspect it. The repair kit comes with black hose. If yours is clear, then I'm betting that it is the culprit. Kevin

the manual says that limp mode only occurs when the motor reaches 2700 rpms and that the boat runs fine up to that point. that is why i was scepitcal because it wont go over 1200 rpms in gear. if i rev the engine out of gear it starts to miss and back fire around 3000 rpms. and yes i made sure i changed the switches not the sensors.

I have a '97 Ski Nautique and had the exact same problem last year. It would start and idle fine, but would backfire and not run above idle. I called Vince at Discount Inboard Marine and described the problem. He told me that on some of the early GT40s they used a clear fuel line inside the fuel separator canister that would develop a crack in it over time. He sent me the repair kit. I unscrewed my separator (It was really stuck on) and saw the clear line he referred to. I took it off and sure enough it had a crack in it. You couldn't see it while it was installed. I replace it along with the fuel filer and the boat has run perfectly ever since. Hope this helps. Kevin

interesting, might give the relay's a try, but it really sounds like it's going into limp mode.
And you are sure you got the right switces and didn't change out the sending units? the oil is pretty easy to tell the diference but the temp isn't. Check the maual but I think you can unplug or ground one or both of the switches to test if they are good or that is causing the limp mode. |

I replaced both switches and no change in the boats condition. I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to the test port on the fuel rail and was only getting 15 psi, when it should be 39 psi. I have already replaced the high pressure fuel pump and fuel filter. I tested the low pressure pump and its fine. Anymore ideas?

oil switch and temp switch is what you should have spent your money on and I am not refering to the sending units for the oil and temp gauge those are seperate units.

My '97 Nautique PCM 351 with EFI will not go above idle speed. It starts but has no power and back fires when I give it throttle. I have changed the fuel filter, high pressure fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires and coil wire, removed fuel and added fresh, double checked plug wire order, cleaned air filter. I am running out of options. Any ideas or suggestions?
