He has a 6a6 strut, the shaft is fine but the strut is bent really bad! also is there some kind of bushing that goes on the bottom of the boat where the shaft comes threw? right now it looks like there is plywood that is showing, I thought there was a plastic bushing or something?
he is looking for a 14 R 14 1" prop. thanks to all. Russ
just do it!

As far as a prop goes, he'd be much better off with a new Acme than an old Federal. They offer a few 13x14 wheels that really wake up a big block boat that previously ran a 13x15 or 14x14 from the factory. Do you know what prop he had and what kind of performance he was getting from the boat? Does he use the boat to barefoot?

The strut on my '79 BFN is marked "6A" and has a 5" body. I have been told that later BFN's got "6A6" struts, which have the same angle and mounting base, but have a longer (6") body. Im sure he could get a NOS one from N3boatworks or White Lake Marine, but he'll pay dearly for it. Another alternative would be to find a good used one from someone parting out a boat. Either a BFN or another v-hull (Southwind, etc) would probably be worth investigating, and I have also heard (but not confirmed) that the smaller Ski Tiques and Skiers used the same 6A strut as the early BFN's.

Its also possible to have a strut straightened if its not too badly damaged, so I would investigate that option as well. I would highly recommend replacing the strut bushing while its out (a new strut should come with a new bushing already installed), and make sure to align everything when reinstalling. Is the shaft damaged as well?
