Vacation spot western PA

Where near Erie? I ski on Edinboro and Conneaut Lake all the time and sometimes on Presque Isle Bay. If we are close by -- PM and maybe we can catch up.

Spot recommendations:

Findley Lake, NY -- Always flat, not crowded. I lived up there and can hook you up with a guy that rents a cottage.

Either Conneaut or Edinboro Lake. Again there is cottage rentals around there.

Kinzu -- Kiasutha camp ground.

Shenango River Lake, there are camp grounds around there.

What about the Kinzu reservoir? I know the level fluctuates a lot where I cross in NY. Chattauqua lake is a good size lake but I don't know the water conditions. I know it is fairly shallow and wide. It might be choppy. I live in town at the south end of Keuka. The middle can be rough, its about 2 miles wide there. The ends usually aren't bad. There is a state park at the northwest end that has dock space available on first come first serve basis. There are several ramps around the lake from 5-10 dollars. I have a season pass to the ramp in Hammondsport. If you give me a little notice, I can let you in. It usually isn't crowded on the water, there is plenty of lake to go around. If your lucky you might even get a John TravoltaKelly Preston sighting. Rumor has it they just bought a house here for 2.5mil.

Indian Lake is a pretty cool lake. I have a buddy who has a house there. I'm am not sure what town/county its in but it is right near where Flight 93 went down.

Lots of inboards on the water there.

Summersville is very nice. Once you get away from the main body of the lake, you might not see another boat all day. We spent a week there about 15 years ago. We had to drive, in boat, for about 20 minutes to get to good water.

Findley lake is only 40 miles from here. It is a very small lake. The boat ramp is closed on the weekends, but during the week the lake is a barefoot paradise!!! I would love a house on the lake but the taxes or way beyond my means. I almost bought a permentant campsite on the lake. $1600/year and $400 for slip.   

In western MD there is Deep Creek Lake which is quite busy on the weekends and the ramp fee is a bit ridiculous (something like $13 in state if I remember correctly). After Labor Day it's much better with many coves so you can usually find calm water, particularly on the weekdays. Yough Lake is 30 mins north of DCL and while it's smaller tends to be less busy. Ramp fee is $0 - $3 depending on the ramp you use. Not as many coves there and the tubers tend to be inconsiderate of skiers. Again, weekdays are optimal. Have a back up plan for another lake after Labor Day as the Corps tends to drain it pretty low within a couple of weeks. I've shown up at the ramp once to find it inaccessable. The northern most ramp (at the dam) is probably accessable later but by then I just head to DCL. Cheat Lake in Morgantown is small but nice. A free ramp is accessable fairly late into the fall and very convienent to I-68. No real coves to speak of. I've only skied there once but was quite happy with the water conditions. All three have rental dock space and are w/in 45-60 mins of each other. One late season option south of DCL in WV is Mount Storm which is very small but heated by the resident power plant. No public dock that I am aware of. It also tends to be very windy there and the lake is fairly wide open so smooth water may be hard if not impossible to find. Jennings Randolph Lake and Tygart Lake are also w/in your target area but I cannot speak to the conditions or access of either.

How did you like Summersville? I've only driven past and it looks beautiful. Was it busy? Were you there on the weekend or weekday?
