Gary, that's a sweet AAR 'cuda. I agree about the truck being a great tow vehicle. I'm tempted to put a hitch on my '71 Charger, but they might make fun of me at the track... until I beat 'em to the other end! Wonder if I could make a pass with the boat behind me.

I have been looking at the Carolina Machine Engine site and I could be swayed to go that route. The 318ci engine is about $1695 plus core. I also have a 1971 Dodge pick up in Oklahoma that needs an engine and the engine in the CC could go there and kill two birds with one stone. I could send the core from the truck in Okla which is a 318. Lets see if my partner thinks it is a great idea. Thanks for all the feedback also.

Steve,
That Southwind looks to be in great shape! But, have you had a chance to check out the stringers yet? I too am surprised Tim didn't grab it when he looked at it! ![]() BTW, I was taking a look through the Hurrikain site and found that the Chryslers did use a RR cam rather than a gear set to run the standard LH cam backwards. I also noticed they are currently out of stock per their site. |

Hey Dave, you think this 340 would have been a good motor for a Correct Craft 'Cuda? Thats me in the front with hair and no belly in 1976 and my friend who owned it back in the day. If we only knew----

That's ok, Gary, we don't need our own page. But I think I'll paint my new 351 windsor in a nice shade of Hemi Orange!

![]() By the pictures that looks like a nice unmolested boat,I'm surprised Tim didn't add it to the fleet. |

I guess it was just a matter of time that someone recognized the old girl. We are going to do our best to make her the grand craft she deserves to be again. Steve

Im glad someone finally picked that boat up. You found it in NH, right? I bought a '81 SN from a lady selling both boats so I looked it over while I was there. Whoever bought it held onto it for a good year and a half- glad to see it ended up on CCFan!

Steve, You do not need the sites administrators permission for picture up loads. First do not use the "quick reply". Click on "post reply" instaed. Then at the top, you'll see a icon of a tree with a up arrow on it. Clicking on it will bring up a "browse" window. This will allow you to select pictures off your computer. However, if they are too big, ypu'll need to resize them. Experiment with the size by using the "preview post" feature. If they are too big, it requires scrolling from side to side which can make the post hard to read. |

Hay Charger496 Thanks for the info. If I was rich and famous I would call up and order the biggist badist small block and drop it in and have a blast but I am not and will do it the poor boy way and try to make this engine work. I will call Carolina Machine. Thanks, Steve

Thanks folks for the info. I changed the forum title to have Mopar in it. Is there anyway to get the administrator to let me upload picturs from my computer? Steve

If cost wasn't an obstacle in my build, I would've considered re-powering my Nautique with Mopar. Sorry, it's in my blood. Call the guys at Carolina Machine Engine. Ask for Richie. They sell remanufactured RR Mopars and he can tell you all you need to know about switching it over. As I recall, the oiling holes on the crank are different. That's a biggie.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have. Tim may be right about the gear drive set-up being GM specific. You'll have to pull the timing cover to see what's in there.
My earlier comment was this in a nut shell-a gear drive will turn the cam in the same direction as in an auto application, but will still be a different cam. |

Steve,
Just go back to your first post and click on "post options" then "edit" and you'll be able to edit the title. Excellent idea and maybe we can get some more action out the the Mopar group!! |

341967360 and build date is 8 2 73 So I have a 1973 360 if I am reading things correct. BuffaloBFN Can you hit me with a little more of a explanation on the gear driven cam. Does this mean that you just change the timing then all things are well with reversing the engine. Do you change the cam timing or the distributor timing or ? Does anyone know if this engine is a gear engine? I am going to order the manual now that I know what engine I have but just would like to get an idea of what I will be getting into. Whitfield How do you change the forum title to include MOPAR. Do you start a new forum. Thanks all, Steve

True, but if Im not mistaken, only Chevies used the gear-gear set up. The Fords and Chryslers used a chain. |

Don't forget that a gear driven cam in a RR engine will have the RR firing order even though it's turning the standard way.

Steve, You must have or have had wood boats at one time! If the keel on a fiberglass hull isn't straight, then it came out of the mold that way! ![]() ![]() Keep us informed. |

I will be checking out the numbers on the block soon and I will know more then. The person we bought it from said it needed a cam to run the correct direction. They threw away the old block with the correct cam. I never throw away anything till I am sure I don't need it. I am a partner on the boat and I think the name had something like blue moon or something like that. I did a quick check under the boat and the keel was nice and streight. The whole bottom is streight. The boat has about 600 hours on it. It also had a cover on it and is in good shape inside. He even had it level so the water could drain. The original engine was allowed to freeze and crack the block. We picked up the boat cheap enough so we can do some restoring or if we find big probs we can part it out. I have a pic if you can tell me how to post it. Steve

Steve,
I sure wish one of or Mopar motor heads would come by!!! Another thing I don't know is if Chrysler used a RR cam or it was gear driven instead of chain for the regular rotation. If that is the case, then you wouldn't need a cam!! Have you found out anything yet? BTW, you never answered on how the stringers are and if your boat was the 20' Freeport!! |
