I live in Dallas. Do I need antifreeze, fogger, and to tape the exhaust? How long does stable last in the gas? If the oil and filter are 20 hrs old should I still change?
Thanks Everyone |

Is it a good idea to add antifreeze to ballast tanks? or not really necessary...if so how do you add it and how much?

I second giving the manual a close look. This is what I have used and it works well for me.
Winterization Checklist This is not brand specific. So there are some alternate methods in there for some things, i.e., adding antifreeze by circulating through the water pump, that are more suited to Indmar motors. The dump 3 gallons in through the intake hose above the tstat housing is in there, too. |

That sure is a big list!! I used a 50/50 mix of Marvel and engine oil way back in the 70's. Although very good at fogging, it wasn't the easiest to use. I've since just stuck with one of the aerosol fogging oils down the carb only. Btw, after 42 years of winterizing, I don't and have never done half of the above list!! Never a problem. |

Thanks guys.
That's a big list! Mine is running on LPG so i can skip the tank and carb part. Is mystery oil a special kind of oil, or can i use something more familiar? |

For what it's worth
Here's how I've done it for (20)years: Fill tank. Add Stabilizer & Dry Gas Run engine to running temp. Change Oil & Filter. Restart to running temp. Fog Engine - Pour 6oz. Mystery oil slowely into carb. Don't let it stall - Shut down as finish pouring (Heavy Smoke). Remove Spark Plugs - Squirt Mystery oil in each Cyl. (about 1 tbs.) Crank engine a few times to spread oil. Replace plugs hand tight with wires on loose. Drain fuel filter. Remove Block drain plugs & Elbow Drain plug. Poke holes with Coathanger wire to remove any debries. Remove exhaust hose, flush out with hose, prop up to drain. Remove Manifold drain plugs, Flush out with hose. Disconnect all water hoses. Thru engine block water hose Add Antifreeze. Blow into hose to keep filling until you see it drip from manifold. Remove water pump & Impeller. Loosen Belts & Remove Battery. Disconnect Speedos at both ends. Cover Exhaust Outlets. (Plastic bag & wrap of Duct tape.) Recommish: Reverse above. Spin oil from plugs (Lay towel over plug holes) Change Tranny oil. |

Fill gas tank, and add fuel stabilizer.
Change oil fog carb and cylinders drain block and all hoses and fill with antifreeze disconnect the battery (I keep mine on a battery tender) seal exhaust flap I put a dehumidifier in that drains out a tube through the hull drain to keep it dry inside(mine gets kept in a barn for the winter.) |

Really, the best place to look is the owners manual. If you don't have one, take a look under "manuals" in the reference section.

Hello,
I did try the search first but it didn't seem to be working. Just wondering if you all could post your winterization checklists. I will be winterizing my 1980 SN I purchased this spring for the first time in the next couple days and would appreciate any tips or tricks of the trade you may have. Thanks in advance |
