Thanks Gary. Mine look about like yours (maybe a little better on the chrome). I appreciate you digging them out.
Chuck, I'll keep you posted on the progress of the vinyl faces. The artist has one of mine originals now and hopefully we'll have a file to send to the printer's soon. Gary's face plate with the crack in it might work for you when we get the vinyl to lay over it. As long as it's still a flat surface. Greg, I emailed you back, but have not heard from you. Did you get my email? john at compassresearchgroup d o t com |

Here are some pics.
Chuck one pic shows the other speedo(for parts)that face plate seems solid but has a small crack near the 'M' in kilometers...it might be better than yours! |

What I really need is the face . . . chrome good, glass good, but the bottom part of the face actually cracked and broke off. Chuck |

Does anyone know if the original faces were white or an off-white? Pete?
I've never seen one of these early models that was truly white. |

You know, I havent cracked open one of my newer ones (plastic housing)... so Im not sure how those are assembled yet. I have the black faced "Correct Craft" script logo face, and the 2 versions of the white faced ("Correct Craft" and "Nautiques") that I figured would be of use to some people.
If they come apart, the scanner at work might be sufficient- Ill report back with what I find! I also have one of the gray faced (late 60's to very early 70's) in a metal housing that I assume is rivited on... so that one would be trickier. |

Are the faces you have also still part of the assembly or could you send them detached? Do you have the ability to do an accurate scan? They can probably work from a scan, but I wanted them to have the actual part so they can be sure to get it exactly right.

Oh. Thanks for the heads-up. I have not cracked one open yet. One of the faces on the 72 (on the dog house) is practically falling off, so I thought they would come out easy. I may just send the whole assembly.

Sounds good to me John- let me know how it goes. Have you cracked into one of these before? Theyre fairly simple- but the faces dont easily detach (theyre rivited on)... you may need to send him the whole assembly to scan. |

Greg,
Just sent you an email. Tim, I just confirmed with the art guy today. I'm going to take the face of one of mine and send it to him. I'm glad to do the same with yours. How many do you have? He made it seem like it was a no-brainer. Why don't we complete the process with this one first to make sure it's actually what we need? We can then have these done in UV resistant inks and should be good to go. |

John, I have a few different types of faces that might be worth scanning, enhancing and reproducing. $50 seems pretty reasonable... maybe I could send him what I have as well. |

Yeah, I know. I've been watching it along with probably 15 other guys from this site. It appears to have some blimishes on the face, although it does still look nice.
I spoke to a guy today about possibly having the vinyl faces made for these. I should know something in the next couple of weeks if it will work with this guy. It will probably cost me $50 or so to have the file produced, but once it's done, we can have the stickers done pretty affordably. Stang and Skicat, I'm still interested in what you have. |

There is a mint one on E-Bay right now. It will be expensive, but it appears to be used. The auction will end in three days.

Murph....El Grande Ebay King may have what you need?
I replaced both of mine in favor of black...my two originals have been saved though. One was working fine....the other was not. I will pull them out and see how they look. As I recall...chrome and glas was in nice shape on both. Dials are faded.....anyway let me take a look and I can take pics. Also....I have a few extra gauges too. |

Donald,
Thanks. I'll reach out to him, but in the post where you were communicating with him, he stated that he only had the black ones. |

Ok, I found the post from 1-24-2009 in the parts for sale area. I bumped the thread so it is back up again. His email is dwcar@yahoo.com. The thread is titled Dash Stickers /Decals. It looks like he does not have the white ones.
Sorry, Donald |

John,
I got some 0-50 Black Face overlays from dwcar (dwcar@yahoo.com) in Houston, Texas. They were like $10.00 each and worked great. I purchased bring orange paint from a hobby shop. I installed the overlays and repainted my needle and they came out great. I used the black face, but I think he also has the white face ones. The guy's name is Don Carr and he also sells the red warning decals on the dash. He has a nice boater's check list. I did my speedo's last winter. I need to get one case rechromed at some point. I love both of your new boats. Donald |

Thanks Pete. The link you listed is the one I remembered. The other links that came up were not really helpful for the replacement faces. It looks like Tribal150 (Rob) does not still have access to having them reproduced.

I can't find it. I think I need a search tutorial.
Does anyone remember who reproduced them? |

Brilliant! I had not thought about that. I'll do a search for who made those replacement faces.

Ahh, I see. I havent torn into such an early Airguide before, but Id be surprised if its put together much differently than the newer ones. If it turns out yours are non-functional, the mechanical assembly from another style should swap right in. Hold onto your needles, as those may be unique. A new vinyl overlay should make any 50mph unit look like NOS.

Hey buddy,
Not sure they are functional and one is duct taped right now. The chrome may clean up nicely, but didn't look that great. The one on the dog house no longer how glass in it and is not in good shape at all. I already have a nice replacement for that one, but the other two could stand to be replaced. It's hard for me to know since the boat is in Mooresville and I'm in Maryland. I have a rinky dink garage at home that won't even fit that 72 SN, so I would rather it stay inside at RCM or somewhere else down there for now. Once it gets closer to the condition that I anticipate, then it can at least make the trip to Lake Gaston (4 hours closer to me). |

John, have you looked into restoring the speedos you have instead? There were a few people here who had recreated that face style in vinyl so you can lay it right over the faded one. Throw a little paint on the needle and youre in business... if I remember correctly, your chrome is in good shape, which is the biggest hurdle. Im assuming theyre functional?

Reid who? Never heard of him. I'll take the stranger deal.
I'm trying to get the 72 Promo into really nice condition. That's why I would like to find a couple newer ones. Keep me posted and thanks for looking. |

I do have some new and some used. I will have to get to my stash & see what is there. I will let you know. Of course having anything to do with Reid raises your cost!
