I now have two 312 engines on stands now,both are left hand. But that was the original power plant, why change rotation . Instead,there is a large and plentful market of hi per parts available.
I wont build anything radical, just basic HP producing mods..This will be an easy rebuild , as I need to spend some time on the Collegian. She has been untouched for too long.Paying jobs are placed in front of my "pet projects". Winter will allow ample time for completion of her before River Run....Billy

That is a low dollar rebuild,no bling on the outside, but attention to detail on the inside. Paul Waters was a big help wih info on his rebuild.The oil pump should be inside any modern motor,NOT.
I have entered a new world wih these things,you can teach an old dog.........if the dog is WILLING.
While talking to the owner over the phone , I "busted her off" straght off the heads,truly a distinct sound. Not like any modern V 8 I have ever heard, but it has a "strang firing order too"

Roger , thanks for the vote. It has been a journey to be sure..I HAVE LEARNED A FEW TRICKS .. Being this is a Halloween motor I had a few treats as well..The finished product speaks volumes ....

Bruce the average 2.5 liter Mercury will take 6 hours of block prep after boring. Clean , measure, clean some more, now measure again.Now assemble the rods/pison assy. Count and recount top end needles then install wrist pin. Now I only have five more to go.
Flat rate on a total rebuild is 17 hours, not counting machine work.At 150.00 a pop for Wiseco pistons,50.00 for bearings can add up to a couple of thousand in parts alone.I only do "high end" rebuilds,6000 rpm plus. All else I buy "new" powerheads and let them worry about the warranty..........I aint cheap , but I can be BOUGHT........Boat dr

Lots of phone calls to guys on here and Y block experts which Billy managed to ask questions they couldn't answer for sure as its RR.

The motor is cranked and running, waiting on a few hard to finds parts and pieces that have made this conversion less than simple.

Bruce, I have a Chrysler Royal M8 323.5 Cid Straight 8 Flathead with a 1 to 1 gearbox, in its day it had 143hp @ 3200 and max torque 250 ft lbs@ 2000 I had to see if could be saved, Pete tells me there are not that many left we will see if this one can,it has a few bits missing and damage to the sump pan, one front mount, it was made between 42 to 47 Chrysler records say only 23 M8 were made probably because of WW11
The thing that made me smile is it has a hand crank boss, now that sure would sort out the men from the boys.

Thanks Pete, rang Billy and he ran the Y block down the phone there no mistaking it they have a sound of there own, Billy has had a hard job on his hands building the motor but now he is The Y Doctor as well as The Boat Doctor, great guy hope to meet him soon.

Sorry I missed this but had my hand full saving this motor, boy you guys sure built to last and heavy too, took me all day to pull and bring home on my own.
