Pete, i spent 8 hours yesterday trying to align a v-drive and still left there unhappy with the results, what a PITA, the trans was originally pulled due to the bottem shaft pilot bearing being wiped out...it was way out of whack and the mounts were all the way over to one side, we started down at the bottem because the boat is up on stilts and the shaft was rubbing on the opening

What does the strut look like? Is it possible that it took a hit, was bent to starboard and someone did a "quick on dirty" cover up moving the engine to port??

its far to the port side...something clearly is not right...
take our word for it. maybe the side pressure expanded the bushing and popped the snap ring out of its unseated groove. the pressure did allow it to walk all the way up and out of its bore. It does look as if the starboard mount also moved over???? |

Dave, With all due respect, your suggestion is correct as far as getting the bushing back in but keep in mind there's a reason it came out. If you look at the 1st picture, you'll see that even the vertical adjusting shaft is leaning towards the port side. |

Tim - I would think he could take the other snap ring off and take it into an Ace hardware and match it up. The Ace near me has everything and anything related to odd ball parts!

I have looked all over for that snap ring. I going to check around the rudder port again to see if its there. I won't get to check until Friday. If I can't find it, is this something I can get local or dealer maybe. Once I get it back in I think the alignment does need to be addressed there has been some vibration, I'm sure this had something to do with it.

Check around the rudder port, that seems to be where metal fasteners wind up, you might find the snap ring their. Pete is right I would lube the shaft where it goes thru the strut with some wd-40 take the bolts out of the coupler at the transmission and see whats going on with the alignment. The mount will need to not be under load when you re-install the snap ring. If you can not find the snap ring I am sure we can find you one.

I would think you could put a socket down over the bolt end and tap the rubber grommet back down into the mount and then put a snap ring back on to hold it in place.
Is there a broken snap ring laying around in your bilge area? |

Not given,
The snap ring is what holds the rubber bushing into the mount BUT, have you checked your alignment? It looks like the aft ent of that engine is all the way past the adjustment to port. It could have come from the factory this way but maybe not. Something put enough pressure on the rubber bushing to pop the snap ring off. |

So working on the engine problems I noticed one of the rear mounts is not right. It appears the rubber has been pushed out of the top, it is lose and is just sitting there. I did a search cam't seem to find much info on how to repair this. 
Here is what the other mount looks like, which looks normal to me
