Summit Racing is good source for marine distributors.. Like Pete said, make sure it is a Marine unit.

You can also have your old one rebuilt.

I used this guy & he did a good job:

What's going on with the distributor? If it's in a boat, do not use a automotive. Is the distributor you're looking at marine and mechanical advance? Consider rebuilding it.

I'll be around after 1 o'clock.

I don't consider myself a professional marine mechanic, but I'm glad to help if I can. My resume is a few years of study here at the U of CCFan and a few extra classes with the Boat Dr.

I'm on the other end of Lanier though...Little River Park.

I could be 1st mate if you don't have help lined up already. Also, if you want to drag it to this side of the pond, we have a ramp close by and an empty slip.

When I put the boat on the water Thursday I was by myself and I was unable to drive at that speed and check timing by myself - Mallory setup the dist. with a hop-up advance and it should be all in at I think 32 or 34 total degrees by 2,800 - 3,000rpm (I don't have my notes with me at the moment) - I was pretty much only able to set initial timing with the motor warmed up good and drive it around for about 20-30 minutes. I need to get a buddy out and check this with me and also reset the dwell myself so I know it is correct in my own mind. I want to solve the "fire" side of the equation before I start suspecting anything with "fuel" side b/c I have not had any carb issues prior to the old dist. just finally wearing out

Thanks for the feedback

Do you know how much advance you are getting at 3500 RPM?
Just another piece of the puzzle.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

A while back I sent my distributor back to Mallory to get rebuilt (about half the price of new one with 12mn warranty) - it turns out the distributor was so old Mallory didn't have parts to rebuild it laying around so they just sent me a brand new one - I elected to stay original and kept the points setup. Here is the question I asked Mallory to setup the point gap to .018 and dwell to 28. I got the distributor back and assumed they did all this and did not check just dropped it in set timing in driveway to get it running and headed to the lake for load test. Long story short I got the timing set to 10deg and everything worked fine, but I could not get above 3,500-3,600RPM at WOT so I packed it up and headed home. At home I put it on the dwell meter and it was reading 14 which is half of what I asked for - NOW to the question with the dwell so low is this probably the reason I was not getting closer to 4,400RPM at WOT.

By the way it is a Ford 302 in Mustang 16 with Holly 4160 4bbl
