i run motorcrafts one heat index higher. they seem to work and last well.. i had autolites in there before, and it seems to run a tad better with the new plugs

no need to OMH. not to often do i ever pull a set of plugs on a boat and find the electrodes burnt off, cars are another story, people tend to pay closer attention to their boat engines.
really though, i changed a set in a 6.0 litre truck last week, showing slight misses on my scanner, pulled the plugs and the tips were completely missing...it baffled me on how the truck only had a slight miss. usually though, if you cant get an engine to run, its usually more than just a set of plugs |

Ok I am on the goole tool bar now but i amd not seeing any spell check functions working
Eric, I have to appologise, I think it was NGK irridium plugs that solved the jet ski start problems, they were recommended when I went in to get the splitfires, I did not change the heat of the plugs , just the type. |

And if you use Google Chrome browser, it should do it automatically too. If not: 1.Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar. 2.Select Options. 3.Click the Under the Hood tab. Scroll down to the "Web Content" section. 4.Click Change font and language settings. 5.Click the Languages tab. 6.Select the "Check spelling" checkbox if you want Google Chrome to automatically check your spelling. 7.Select the language you want to use in the "Spell-checker language" menu. 8.Click OK when you're done. |

The idea/principle is the same as the surface gap plugs that OMC tried way back. They didn't last very long!! I converted back from the surface gaps to regular plugs a long time ago in my Evenrude's on the Alumacrafts.

As an act of desperation I put a set in my Dads old 64 Mercury outboard. It would load up and foul out one plug while idleing. Now I don't know if the heat range was the same as the plugs Merc recommended but it did cure it and they have been in there for years.I can't say just going a step or 2 hotter may have fixed it with regular plugs too.Maybe they are good for 2 cycles? I wouldn't bother on our engines.

The Mozilla Firefox Browser has spell check right out of the box. As far as spell check for the Internet Exploder... I'm not sure, but I think IE8 has spell check, I'm not sure, I gave up on IE a long time ago. |

I was going to start the last post with an old guy and technology comment but took the high road as I am not that far behind you. Does anyone here know how to make spell check work on this site or add an application that will make it work?

the only time Ive ever noticed a difference in the performance of an engine, is when i pull some plugs and the electrodes are burned off, which tells me its time for some new plugs...throw some in and boom, no misses.. im a true believer in using whats recomended by the manufacturer now adays.
they go thru thousands of hours of test cycles and want their engines to out perform competition.....but i would imagine at the end of the day there may be a get rich quick scheme thrown in there in regards to who owns the patenet |

Dave, I by no means am a computer expert and in fact still can't type!! All I know is the spell check must be on computer rather than site based since I have it here and not at work! |

Eric, I am way OverMyHead guestioning this one, but could it also be a cost thing or who owns the patent? I use autolites in my 351 as thay work great, but my old jet ski had an issue with long crank times to start, it improved some with a new coil and plugs, but remained. Crank times were cut in half when I later switched to the slitfires. This is anecdotal at best though. |

Pete, What setting for spell check? I thought that was a site thing not a computer thing. I have XP on this computer and windows seven on the other, some of you patented step by step instructions would be of great help.

Mike,
Don't forget you need to get us pictures! We love them!! Also, get some as well as some text to Keith for the sites diary section. There's a spot to click on in that section for the application. It may take a couple days for Keith to get it posted so don't worry. |

Mike,
Did the PO believe in Fram filters too? (FYI, they are not even close to even a good filter!) Another good way to check for stringer problems is to do a engine/shaft alignment. Take a look at Eric's alignment thread Also, "core" samples of the stringer wood can be taken with a 1" hole saw. Just go through the glass with the saw. The pilot drill will remove some wood and then with the glass removed you can see the wood. Any gray to black staining will indicate there's rot. Spell check? It works here. Check out you computer settings. |

think about it, if the guys at Ford seen an advantage to using splitfires, they would be in there...go with the autolights.
the best way to check for rot is by turning your engine mount lag bolts, if they turn easily you have rot, if not go back a little further and tap the stringers with a ball peen hammer, you will hear a sound difference if there is rot |

Hi, This is my first post. It has been a while since owning a Nautique my first was an 83 which I ran everyday, except for minor stuff never had a problem with. My new boat is an 86 that has been sitting for a few years. It has splitfire plugs and some kind of eletronic ignition, I was wondering what you guys thought of those plugs? I am inclined to go with autolights. I have a thousand more questions, but the old topics and search feature have provided some very good info. It seems like you guys know your stuff. P.S. My wife asked if I was going to start sleeping in the boat? Is that a good or bad? I will be more brief next time. My kids can not believe how well the outside cleaned up. How do I check the condition of the stringers?
Thanks, Mike P.s. Where is the spell check? |
