Thanks for the idea! I think I salvaged enough to make a template from:

I hit it again tonight:

Yeah, after posting that I saw the greying and guessed they must've been going. Sure must be nice to have those to cut templates from. I didn't re-foam either. Did you use anything for floatation? For mine I used pool noodles. I put them under the floor and cut some up for inside the airbox. They even tuck into the gunnels out of sight, but might keep me off the bottom in a pinch.

Not to long.
I made a shallow cut along the top then used a wonder bar and wood chisel to pry/tear the glass off, then cleaned up the remains with a grinder

Did it take long to get the glass off of the wood? I wish I could use mine for templates, but I think the glass is the only thing holding them together.

They were showing signs of rot, they were wet and the main reason I pulled them was the glass was separating from them.
The foam was soaked and weighed a ton, so now I know the boat is like new underneath the floor.
Actually better than new because I didn't put any foam back in.

Paul, those are about the best looking original stringers I've ever seen from one of these boats. Guess they were gonna start to rot eventually though.

Here's a pic of the originals I pulled out of my '85. Give me some time to finish my coffee and I'll get you some better pics if you want them.

Roger-

I received the files successfully. Off to print them. I may end up being very productive today!

A sincere "Thank you".

Mike put an email address up and I ping my Cad file over just print full size and you have a paper template that gets you around the right shape then you need to scribe into your hull as no two boats are the same.

Just last week another guy doing stringers said Johnsons didn't have any fir larger than 2x6. Johnsons will resaw that down to any size you need.
You can’t change the wind but you can adjust your sails

This is what I have. The shortest section is about 3 1/2"

I made another run for some more 1x6 fir for the secondaries today. Found out that Johnson's in Charlotte had Fein blades for about 30% off! While there I spied some more Doug Fir...

UK-

I would sure appreciate any measurement that you took to form the bottom of the stringer. Do you have any available?

Pete is right you need to check out the height with a guy with a 80/81 SN as the size you have sounds wrong, here is a picture of what I came up with on my build to add a cradle so would think it will look much the same just that I have worked around a Chevy, most have Fords so you need to check before you cut.

Mike,
Yes, the 3.5" seems pretty skimpy!!! Do you see where the original floor level was on the hull sides? Get some heights off it if so. Yes, you'll need to go off the original stringers however, keep the pictures comming so we can take a look.

Go by the original. Surely some of the pros will chime in soon.

I was all geared up today to get cutting on the fir and then douse it with CPES on the 1981 SN that I have been working on buy decided to wait since the Douglas Fir is such a rare commodity...

I have a copy of the stringer diagrams from the UK fellow but they do not look much like the ones I have removed from my boat. I suspect that this is due to the aluminum engine bed that was not offered in 1979 (The year of the boat that I have stringer measurements from).

Can anyone tell me if the stringer profiles are the same or if I need to copy the ones that I have removed? I hate to do this since the originals have been butt joined and do not resemble the original profile very well at all. At one point, the originals that I just removed are only 3 1/2" tall. I find it hard to believe that was by design...

Thanks guys!
