A while back I got a new pair of chrome Trick flow ones with new gaskets for 25 dollars from summit.
Those clear, and most ones that are not listed as tall ones will clear the manifolds and risers. Mine are a little taller than the stock ones, but still allow you to use the normal bolts with a wobbler attachment on the end of an extension. I do think a set of nice Socket head cap screws in SS would look nice though. The ball end allen wrenches would give a lot of easy clearance.
The thing to watch for is that you might not be able to use the original breather that gets vented to the carb.

I bought a set of Edelbrock Aluminum finned manifolds because I could not "flatten out" the base and stop a nasty oil leak.   I had to do some trial fits with a couple set of covers due to clearance issues with the manifolds but all in all I love what I ended up with.

I sourced them at Summit and paid only $80 for the pair.

I will post pics later today.

Be careful of what you buy. Some of the aluminum aftermarket ones are too tall and hit the exhaust risers and some of the stamped steel versions are not relieved enough in the middle lower bolt location to allow even a small socket in there. You will need to use an allen head with a washer and a "T" wrench with a ball end to tighten. OE Ford valve covers will fit properly.

Come on guy's every gearhead in the world knows that chrome flashy valve covers are 10hp bolt on!?!?!?!!!!

Personaly I dont feel that adding any chrome to a motor is a detraction and again it is up to each individual to customize or not to customize. If you feel like you need to do it then by all meens do it! Throw the take off stuff in a box and If and when you sell the boat give the next guy all the take off orginal parts.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

I agree with the above. On a modified motor, flashy valvecovers dont look too bad. On an otherwise stock, original motor, they look cheesy. Your originals have a pretty cool stamping in them... Id hang onto them if I were you.

Not sure about the valve covers, but I'd say the engine is pretty clean......the bilge needs the cleaning

Throw some hot water and laundry detergent in the bilge. Let it slosh around in there for a while (on your way to the ramp) and it'll get some of the black soot out of there.

If it's really nasty then get it cleaned up with something else. I did mine with a power washer...VERY CAREFULLY so you don't knock off any glass of the stringers and keep it away from the carpet. Be careful of hoses and wires as well.

Wanting to dress up the engine some. Where is a good place to find good looking valve covers? Is aluminum OK or steel better for boats? Looking for some shine.

Also, what do I ask for? Engine is a 1976 351W Ford Escort. Thanks - Kirk
