Pete, yes, the salesman told me to use Fuel Injection Cleaner in the 'ole 66
No- really I go to Asheboro,NC and buy $6 a gallon Sunoco Racing Fuel NoNoNo---really!! I just go to the gas station and pump it full of gas. Don't look at nothing! Only the last 5 years have I been putting Stabilizer in the Skylark! Yes we started carrying Startron and I got a bottle of concentrate ,but haven't used it yet. |

Marty,
You must have a real smooth talking salesman come into your store and give you the BS hype on a lead "substitute". I'm shocked you believe it and assume use it! |

You live in Texas, why do have a a snow machine? Is it left over from your days in the barren tundra north of the Red River?

I'm not using it as a stabilizer, my stuff never sits more than a couple of months. My small motors (trimmmers/blowers) are the most temperamental, the boat is one of the least. I use it more as a treatment to keep things running, like some people use Sea Foam. That stuff has gotten expensive so I found the Startron as an alternative.
The small motors are disposable, but I like to get 3 years out of them before I replace them, if they have to go in the shop I throw them away and replace them, it cheaper in the long run. I can't afford to do that with the boat yet. Lol |

In the winterizing threads this year there are several mentions of running stabil through your fuel system to prevent gunk building up so that is what I did. I guess we will finds out...

I'm still on the fence with the StarTron. I have been using Stabil for over 20 years in the powersports industry and never had to clean a single carb after long term storage . That's a lot of snowmobiles and motorcycles. I used StarTron in my own personal dirt bikes and snowmobiles over the last year and have had to clean the carbs in all of them after storage. I got one of my kids sleds out on Monday and it wouldn't start at all.Pulled the carb off and it had the green death. The fuel was treated before storage and then the tank and the carb were drained.
As an enzyme treatment, I'm sure it's fine.....as a long term stabilizer, I 'm going to need some more convincing.YMMV Mike |

I think a lot of it has to do with how quickly you burn your fuel and if you leave your boat in the water and how full you leave your tank.
I keep my boat on the trailer primarily, and typically have 1/2 a tank. No issues yet. But that star-tron stuff does work. Ive seen friends boats do really well with it. Just given my boating situation I don't use it. |

I've been using the Startron most of the summer, didn't have any issues before so I wasn't sure if it was doing anything. When I went to get the mowing equipment out to do some fall cleanups a few weeks ago I found a few cans of old gas, probably bought twords the end of summer. Altogether they most filled a 5 gal jug, and smelled a bit funny, normally I wouldn't use this in anything, or would add it to the the mower a little at a time. I decided to try out the Startron by adding the whole can to the empty tank on thee mower, I did have a fresh tank on the other side as well as a month to clean up things if something went wrong. After about 7 hrs of run time over that weekend, nothing happened, I was very surprised and will continue to use it.

I have an 01 accord 4CYL with 200k on it. Most honda/acura/toyota 4 bangers' valves make noise after a couple hundred thousand miles from sticking when they go up and down. I run some sea foam through the oil and fuel tank in it and it really quieted it down. I know some hate sea foam but I really like the stuff.

I started using Startron enzyme treatment for the first time two years ago and it works great to address ethanol issues. In my opinion the Lucas additive is best for regular (every other fill up or so) maintenance. I wasn't sure it was really working until the Check Engine Light came on in my Rover a few months ago. I had the OBD code read (too lean Bank 2), put in some Lucas and it cleared within 20 miles.

I used Starbrite Startron, the blue stuff, in my gasoline all summer. I added at least a little with most every fill up. Basically, I just did that to deal with potential ethanol issue.
It ran great with that, of course, I don't know for sure that it would not have without the Startron, because I used it right from the getgo. Of course, my local marina carried the Valvtec stuff. So, using the Strartron in additon may have been over kill. |

I know there has been alot of discussion on oil/oil filters, some discussion on use of "Lead" substitutes in the gas, but the search function really doesn't pull up anything concerning regular use of other gasoline additives such as Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment and the use of Sta-Bil at every fill-up. There is alot of literature out there pushing both the pros/cons so I thought I would ask here on the forum and see what the general consensus is. Thoughts and opinions appreciated
