Mine came carpet out and reasonably clean, from what I have read here you want it pretty cleaned up. Home depot sells a 3-4 inch razor scraper cheap that works awesome on concrete, not sure what it would do to fiberglass or plywood. if it is to agressive a 3" metal putty nife and a gentle use of a heat gun will get you there. I used exterior carpet glue from home depot or menards with a fine notched trowel.

From my experiance as a carpet installer, only the loose and high areas need to be addressed. We use a scraper to remove excess glue. The scraper we use is a very think razor blade. Be certain to get yourself a high quality outdoor carpet glue or marine glue if there's such a thing. Feel free to ask any other questions on general carpet installation.

...Lots of old glue that needs to be scraped clean...
Can you sand this stuff off or what type of scrapper are you recommending. In Wisconsin in February the only scrapper I'm familiar with is the one I use on my windshield in the morning, haha! |

Haven't compared prices, but I liked the functionality of this website. I want to replace my carpet too, but have other issues to deal with first.

All foamed boats (late 60's forward) will have glass floors. The section between the engine compartment and kick panel will have wood under the glass, but thats immaterial concerning carpet replacement. Only the 60's and early 70's boats had another layer of wood screwed down over the glass floors.
Ive gotten most of my carpet at MarineCarpeting.com, formerly bassboatcarpets. Their prices are good (even the shipping) and they have a pretty big selection. They'll also send you free samples before you buy. Matching carpet perfectly to the existing is a very difficult thing to do- pile height, grain, color (especially if faded) will all vary. I would buy enough carpet to redo the entire boat. That includes the floor, the walls and any interior panels. A 6'x40' or so should be enough for a 19' boat. |

Lots of old glue that needs to be scraped clean before you glue down the new stuff. I believe glass everywhere but under the front seats. |

My family has a flooring business. We may have an outdoor carpet to suit your needs. Shipping would be an issue though.

I don't have any good sources but I do have some good questions, haha.
I have an 89 sport that I want to do the same thing to. I'm wondering about good sources as well as what is underneath the carpet? In the 89 is it a wood floor, or a fiberglass floor? |
