I posted the link to the homebrew recipe:

http://www.epoxyproducts.com/penetrating4u.html

I used xylene thinned resin and it seemed to work fine as a "homemade" CPES. Im going to use the same thing on my next wood stringer rebuild. It may or may not be as good as a professional blend, but it is magnitudes cheaper and will be better than nothing... which is what the factory did.

Regarding the layup schedule, I would recommend reading other stringer threads. A lot of people have put a lot of time into determining what should work well, and have shared what they used... so the work has been done for you.

Sorry Joel.

Thanks,
I have thy cradle lose and can raise it, I think it needs to be soaked in some oil. I didntwant to mess up the underside of the boat tugging on the pylyon. Is the shaft that goes into the cup a splined shaft?

Mike,

On you pylon. Have you removed the bolt that goes thru the cup and base of your pylon? Squirt a little penitrating fluid in the cup. On my 83 there are 4 bolts that go thru the aluminum cradle. These 4 bolts make the cradle clamp down on the pylon.
I had my engine out of the boat and was able to get a large pipe wrench on the pylon down close to the hull. It did scar up the pylon but it is all down below the floor..

sorry guys it is an 86 SN. Well thst would still be alot cheaper but does it work as well. The previous system lasted 24 years and is not that bad now I may try it. Anymore info would be great. Does anyone have a definite lay-up procedure they would recommend? I have looked at way to many suggestions and am not sure what is needed or what is way overkill.
Thanks Mike

There was a link recently to a site that said to mix xylene with your epoxy - 20% was a optimum ratio to thin it out. Acetone works too, but they recommended xylene.

Can you mix the epoxy with say acetone or xylene to produce something like the CPES? The acetone is an excellent at penetrating. I have bought some good bootleg for a lot less than the CPES. Dont want to sound cheap but I am. Also any tips on getting out the ski pylon mine is so stuck.
Thanks Mike
